I just read a review from May 2023. The same thing happened to me. I went to the store at 2112 S Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach Shores and was asked to leave my bag. I didn't know what it was about, so I left it. When my husband and autistic son left the store before I left, the manager followed them outside and asked my husband to empty his pockets. He refused. She told him that people who leave the store without purchasing things are usually shoplifting, but he told her that his wife was standing in line. It was racial profiling. The regional director called us and apologized and said he would personally visit the store. I hope he was telling the truth.

The manager is a horrible racist and a bigot toward people with special needs. Have any of you ever been asked to empty your pockets when leaving a store? We took our son to a dollar general in Daytona Beach Shores (2112 S Atlantic Avenue). He picked out some things. My husband was taking him to the car while I paid for it. The store manager asked him to empty his pockets because they "looked suspicious". He refused. When I entered the store, the cashier told me that I needed to leave my backpack behind the counter. I went ahead and did it even though I shouldn't have. This was before they entered the store. It was crazy. We were the only Black family in the store.

Black lady with short gray hair running the front needs to learn some customer service. I’m politely waiting for her to finish her transaction to ask for the bathroom key. Im on a phone call in the meantime and she looks at me and I proceed to ask for the key and she goes “here you go because I’m tired of listening to your conversation.” What a way to talk to people.. great customer service!

On May 20, 2023, while on vacation, my 10 yr old son and I visited this store in the early afternoon. I had a purse with a wallet, like I ALWAYS have when shopping. My son and I browsed the aisles and checked out without incident. I noticed two white females working, and one white male. Later on this same day at approximately 6pm, I returned to the store with my husband and two children. Upon entering, a black female behind the counter told me I had to leave my purse, and wallet full of cash and credit cards in her possession. I asked her why I would do such a thing? Who would leave all their cash and credit cards in the hands of a stranger? She provided little explanation other than saying that I HAD to comply. I advised her that I was in the store earlier, and at no point did any other worker tell me that I had to hand them (some stranger) my cash and credit cards. The conversation escalated and I repeatedly asked for a manager. The black female said she was doing her job, and following store policy. The woman told me I needed to leave the store. I asked where that policy information, prohibiting purses and wallets was posted. She had no answer. Finally, a white woman came to the front of the store as if she were going to physically fight me (I'm 8 months pregnant). She didn't identify herself as a manager, so I'm not sure who she was.Dollar General Corporate - My lawyer is going to have a field day with this incident.Online states, "Dollar General strives to provide customers a respectful, welcoming and pleasant shopping experience with friendly customer service. Dollar General customers are not prohibited from bringing purses of any particular size into our stores, and no store is authorized to implement such a policy."DG corporate - I hope you have a great legal team, because I will not let this go, and I have the means to pursue it. Good luck!

Absolutely the worse DG experience thus far. I shop at DG all the time at various locations, and have never been rudely turned away, 15 minutes prior to closing time. I'm pretty sure the heavy set male who refused to provide me his name, was a manager. Instead he taunted us from inside the store after manually closing the doors. I told him that the store hours posted on the door said they closed at 9 pm and that we still had 15 minutes. He said "nope, gotta get all these people out by 9." That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. My boyfriend and I needed 1 item, knew exactly where it was, and would have been out of the store well before 9 pm. If you are going to make up your own hours of operation, then don't post them, both online and on the very door you shut in our faces. From what I have read in other reviews, there appears to be a general consensus that this manager clearly has horrible customer service skills, and hates his job. I might also mention his appearance and general hygiene left little to be desired...it looked as though he hadn't bathed in weeks. Certainly matched his disgusting attitude. If you hate your job so much, find something else to do to earn money, where you're not making someone's experience of spending their hard earned money, such a negative one. Do better.

Not happy. Been shopping here for almost 10 years and was denied a return of a bag of popcorn because I bought the wrong flavor. I was told they don't accept food for return. It was bought no more than 2 hours before I went back for the return, the bag was clearly unopened and not tampered with in any way, had receipt. Check receipt for return policy and says nothing about food also checked website and says nothing about food. I really wish I had an alternative to shop unfortunately I'm stuck with this ungrateful business.

Male manager is so rude! ALWAYS in a nasty mood for no reason other then to just be flat out mean. I've never once herd him say have a nice day or thank you at check out.He burbs very loud like he's at home and its down right disgusting. If you get in his way in the aisle he gives this rude sigh and rolls his eyes. They blast heavy music and I'm sorry but it's really hard to shop and concentrate when Rob Zombie is screaming in my ear.

Worst cashier. Blonde skinny female has no clue what shes doing. And completely rude. Doesnt know any prices and only scans an item if you buy it. She refused to give me a receipt due to the roll being empty. Don’t work and dont hire anyone just cause you need staff. And she was racist cause I have Lebanese ethnicity! Said something about going back to my country to her coworker while laughing. Horrible experience.

Went in today and the lady working refused to let me add my phone number. I asked her to and she finally did it after several times asking. I had one more transaction that wasn't for me and she refused it all together. My friend was next and she refused her adding her number and even after asking she still refused and made her pay. She was very rude and disrespect. If you don't like your job find something else to do.

I come to this location very much. All the employees are very nice except the male manager. I’ve had two incidents with him since I’ve been there. He is very rude for absolutely no reason. First time I brought back diapers to exchange their size but I didn’t have a receipt & he attitude totally changed when I said I didn’t have one. Then proceeded to not tell me I had to pick out the diapers I wanted first in order to exchange them. He just let me stand there.Second incident happened today when I came to get soil & a few other things. When I went to check out I realized I had forgotten my card & I said I would be right back. When I got back he was checking another customer out, once the customer left, he saw me standing at the self checkout ready to pay for my things, he then looked away & proceeded to say “next guest”, looks at me again then looks away. I have to physically hold my card up & say “I’m back! I have my card ready to pay.” I have never met a more rude manager.

I'm giving this place one star due to the manager Everytime I go in I am disgusted he walked down the aisle behind me belching! Everytime I go into this store nothing is stocked in the fridge section I asked if they are short staffed and I was told no not really. I have seen first hand myself the manager treat customers like garbage. I come in 5 days a week. I work nearby. The outside has trash all over . This place needs new management

We go to this Dollar General when we are in Daytona Beach. We stay near here and have no problems getting items we need.
