This book store has a LOT of books; some new, but for the most part, second hand and in good condition. If you are a history connoisseur or love to read Biographies about US presidents there is a big section in the back right of the store. I found some great music books for piano and other instruments tucked away in a box under one of the shelves. I was a bit disappointed with the price of some of the music books. I usually pick them up from other book stores for $3-$4 each. Here, the books for selling at or way more than the original price, and these are by no means a collector's item. The Scarlatti Sonata No. 30, "The Cats Fugue," original price is $2.50 and is sold here for $20. I can order the same edition on eBay for $3.99. other online retailers sell the same book with alternate cover for $1-$2 more. Unfortunately, I couldn't ask for a discount because the owner was out of town for the holiday so, I left this book for now and purchased two other books for about $6 each. My Mom purchased a signed edition of Heart Wide Open by Shellie Rushing Tomlinson for $15. I guess that is about the going rate for a NEW book. I can find it unsigned/secondhand online for about $5; I guess the signed book brings up the value? The store owners' brother was operating the store while the owner was out of town. I didn't get his name, but he welcomed us in the store, was very helpful, and shared a great conversation about his service in the Airforce. All-in-all, this is a cool store to check out if you're in Deland shopping.

Pros: LOOOOTS of books and for a reasonable price, too.Cons: I wasn't greeted as I came in. The owner stayed behind her computer the whole time I was there. Also, there were more old books than new.

Walked in and the fellow behind the counter made no effort to acknowledge me. No, “Welcome,” “Hello,” etc. pretty poor customer service….and the price of the one book I was interested in was ridiculously expensive.

Owner made me extremely uncomfortable and angry when he told my boyfriend he should have better control over me and my spending. The man said my boyfriend should be correcting me and putting me in my place. Nice way to make sure we never come back.

It's ok. Selection was interesting, particularly along the far right wall through the history section. Outside of this, many of the books were what I consider as "leftovers" in the various subjects. The store though was very clean, and nicely organized - and books were of a really good quality for being used (most in "Very Good" condition or better). It was, however, a fairly loud place as far as used bookstores go, with lots of customers coming in and out who, from the sounds of it, normally wouldn't seek out a bookstore. Certainly, not an issue of the store's, but the location makes them more prone to casual walk-ins and tourists I suppose. I looked at nearly every book in the place though, and I think you'd get hard pressed to walk away with a big haul - unless you were primarily focused on fiction. The good stuff must get sold online. There were some unique pieces here though - large sets, signed books, etc. and there are a few displays around the store of their specialty books. Kinda gimmick-y in that sense, but that's just me. Their literature section is probably the best thing they have going, and that's the area I'm least likely to check out at a used bookstore.

In the heart of Deland beats Deland's heart - The Muse Book Shop. Evoking the old world charm of English booksellers wedged in quaint villages or the Quai des Bouquinistes in Paris; among its tightly stocked shelves, you can escape what you were running from or find what you were looking for. If books were gems, this would be Alibaba's cave. The owner, Janet, is both eminently knowledgeable and exceedingly helpful. If there were ten muses instead of nine, Janet would be the tenth!

What a lovely local bookstore! They have a wide assortment of books here, from new titles to antique "beautiful on the shelf" books. Assistance is easily available, and if they don't have what you want in stock, they can order it quickly!
