Shout out to Heather. I called last week to ask if I could do a "walk in" with a feral cat that I have been caring for a while. It was to be a "walk in" because I never can tell just what day I would be able to get her into a carrier. She needs a complete exam and her shots. Heather was helpful and accommodating and said "of course". I have dealt with Newman's in the past with my other cats. They are the best !!!!. Wish me luck on the carrier thing !

I brought my dad's dog to get her stitches removed from her surgery and Everytime I have been there they have been very informative and caring. I highly recommend especially for your fur baby.

My concern was that my pet would receive her medication in a timely manner. Although the vet told me that my pup would probably weigh 8 or 9 pounds at adulthood, and the vet tech assured me, pre-exam, , there would be no problem stepping up to the next dosage of Flea+ preventive medication,(in fact agreed it was the correct thing to do because by the time I received it, her weight would be within the correct range) Her RX was nonetheless declined (I was never notified by VCA that they declined the prescription, I only knew because I received an email from the vendor) when ordered outside of VCA ( insurance reasons) & front desk stated, via my 2nd phone inquiry, "because we've seen plenty of overweight SHIH -TZU puppies & 6 months is too long to approve an RX, and she'll probably way more because this breed typically weighs more than 11 pounds by 6-9 months, but you are more than welcome to bring her in here next month to be weighed again". (Believe me if I didn't live 25 miles away. I'd have my little angel in there every day to be weighed if needed). Well, fine, just let's get this resolved before her next dose is due, which is in a few days tho!!! (med is mail order) By the way, she was going to send approval to Chewy even though she admitted ( by the way, did I mention she was a front desk clerk/receptionist ) that she did not speak to the vet tech because it was "really busy today and she was out of the office. I told her she was speaking out of her scope of practice & and the very reason I called at 8 AM so that this issue could be resolved today. ( It was now 430 PM) Her reply was " well then fine, I won't do it & you can wait". I would wait forever for my little angel. I wasn't asking anyone to do anything unprofessional or illegal. ( I have an above average knowledge of prescribing Regulations) )I just wanted the problem solved, so she could receive her dose in a timely manner. By the way, she's a 5.8 lb Schweenie...Mixed ...both parents were... (she's long like a Doxie) not a Shih, and she's my whole world right now, so I was just trying to keep her healthy. Why wasn't I notified by VCA that they were declining the RX request either by telephone or email? Also, I was never given a breakdown of the costs for that visit ... i was only sent (emailed) an invoice for the total amount due, which I promptly paid in full!

Dr Castro restricted crucial thyroid medicine for my cat without notice, leaving my 19 yr old cat Brandi without this medicine for two days, and causing much stress on me. My cat has been on this medicine daily for over one year, and will need to be on it for life. Supposedly it was to get Brandi back in their office, however we already had an appt set up for Aug 2. Very unprofessional and uncaring decision that simply makes no sense .

I have 3 cats and every visit, no matter if it's 1 cat or more averages $300. Been taking them here 2 years for respiratory, allergies, urinary, etc. and once my Tom cat was so very sick and 3 meds + visit was 300+. I only had$250 on me and they let me walk out with Tom and nothing. Took him back home sick because I was short about $75. I cried!! Found out it's mold in wall in apartment and reason cats been sick all these months. I called VCA immediately informing them of the mold poisoning and what can I do for them. No reply. I evacuated and took the cats with me. Tom had labored breathing. I called my vet first, VCA and here's the reply. "Good morning this is VCA Edgewater in regards to Tom. We spoke with the doctor, but unfortunately there is nothing we can do and she suggested taking him the the ER."Nobody EVER called me one time!! Tom ended up with bronchitis that ER said wasn't new. My opinion, it's all about the money. Could give 2 squats if a pet lives or not and then will blame you for it. Searching for another vet as I type this.

After and Before pictures. My 13 year old fur baby had a cyst successfully removed from her tail. She has been recovering very well and acting like a kitten again. The office cat, Geronimo, plopped down next to her carrier and took my seat while I was at the front desk. I think he wanted to comfort Cupcake before her surgery. ???

My cat was being treated for a urinary infection. After leaving a urine sample at 9am on Sat., 6/3 for a recheck I never heard the results. I called at 1 pm on Sat. and was told it had not been tested yet. I called again at 3 pm on Mon. and was told that Dr. Castro would call me. At 1 pm on Tues. I drove to the clinic because I still had not heard from anyone. I will never go to this clinic again for anything.

Front desk staff is extremely rude. They expect customers to be polite but don’t provide the same kindness back. Leaving this vet!

I love this place, everyone is so friendly and helpful. They treated my Lola so well. The staff all seem very knowledgeable. The veterinarian explained everything and she made sure I knew she was always just a phone call away. Thank you.

My dog was dying and was too busy moving employees around for added doctors to see him. Had no openings even though she was his doctor. She had already seen him and he was no better. I took him to someone else who was nice enough to see him and helped us send him to heaven painlessly.

They really do treat your pet like their own, super staff, very helpful, professional and knowledgeable. Dr Castro is the bomb, I tell everyone, if she can't fix it, it can't be fixed, and I have never seen her give up on a patient....

No stars, when I made the appointment I was very clear that I wanted a pregnancy confirmation. The person I spoke to said " yes, at 4 weeks we can confirm." I made the appointment 4 weeks from when my dog mated. I arrived to my appointment only for the Vet to say, " we can do a sonogram for $400.00 but it wont really show what you want to to know." So I was charged $50.00 for the vet to see my dog for 5 minites and check her heart rate with a stethoscope. Very disappointed. I don't want to give even a 1 star rating, but it won't let me post this without a rating.

I’d give them a zero if possible they were the primary vet for both of my dogs I had a emergency situation with my husky I walked him into his vet after I had called the day before and had to go to anothe vet. Anyway I walked him in said that he really need to see his vet there was no one in waiting area but yet the vet said since he might need overnight care they wouldn’t look at him so they didn’t actually know if they would or would not need overnight care because his primary vet didn’t look at him turns out he didn’t need overnight care he had liver failure caused by liver disease.which his primary vet at this place never caught during checkups. This is not an animal hospital a hospital takes their patients at anytime especially during an emergency. This place is the absolute worst I have always had wonderful vets in Missouri so this nonchalant attitude toward your pets by Dr.Marrero is horrible. I will be filing a complaint with the state board so this never happens to another family.
