Very disappointed. My brother lives here and I chose it. I was told they would take him to medical appointments. I was told his room would be tidied daily: bed made, dishes done, counters wiped down. I was told his apartment would be thoroughly cleaned once a week.None of the above happens. There’s always an excuse. I spent two hours on a Saturday cleaning just his kitchen. I take him to every medical appointment. I take him to oublix weekly. His bed is never made. Kitchen is never cleaned by staff. For the amount he pays every month, the only benefit is meals. Sunday night dinner was a choice of pasta with meat sauce, tuna salad sandwich, grilled cheese sandwich and one other thing I can’t recall. None of which seemed like a dinner entreeVery very disappointed that the sales pitch has not been lived up to

Would not recommend this facility for anyone! Clinical is careless and the management team worry about themselves not the residents. Management and ED and above worry about numbers instead of the residents and making sure it’s a home for them. Very poorly ran, extremely unorganized!

Wonderful place for your love ones. Clean, nice large modern rooms. Reasonable prices. Friendly, happy and caring staff. Great restaurant with lots of healthy choices. Lots of activities to keep your love ones active. My love one really likes it there.

I am writing this review on the basis of my tour of Brookdale Mandarin. One of the perks of living in Jacksonville is that there are many options for independent living and assisted living. However, after a month of intensively searching, calling and touring various facilities, I strongly believe that Brookdale Mandarin is the right place for my parents. It is not as fancy as some that I looked at but there is a strong sense of community and, based on my brief observations, the residents seem to be enjoying the many activities that are offered. The apartments that I looked at have been completely redone between residents so they look clean and modern. The one and two bedroom apartments have full kitchens, which I really like. All the staff I met were friendly but I have especially appreciated the help of Ron Mchugh who took me on not one but two tours, patiently answered all of my many questions and went above and beyond to work things out for my parents to be able to move in on the timeline we needed.

My mother lived the last 6 months of her life at Brookdale mandarin and it was the best thing for her.The staff was kind and attentive, maintenance requests were always addressed and taken care of in a timely manner. Her apartment was very clean and comfortable and she always felt safe which is a big deal.Assisted living is expensive, but I saw first hand the level of care given and I feel it was worth every penny.I can highly recommend Brookdale Mandarin to anyone.Shawn New

My Mother and I visited Brookdale Mandarin yesterday, to tour the site and inquire about future residence. We met with Ron McHugh who was terrific; providing us with information, and a tour of the property. Ron was patient, thorough, and friendly, introducing us to staff and residents, as we walked. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. The staff was courteous and attentive, the residents happy and outgoing. I believe my Mom will decide Brookdale Mandarin will be her next home, and we look forward to working with Ron and the team.

Stayed here 2 weeks. Horrible. They wrote in my evaluation I could not shower feed myself dress myself take my own medication…. So when my husband placed me at WL they charged for assisted living …. When I was doing everything for myself at the rehabilitation… except medication because no hospital will let a patient taje their own medication… it’s just sad how they lied. And I was there 2 weeks and I’m sorry but it was just a joke. There was one kind therapist. Who really stretched my spasms legs and that helped more than anything. Happy the day I left. Sorry.

My parent were residents there and had a horrible experience. It was heart wrenching. So many promises not kept. Food was not edible at times and they had meeting after meeting about this. A lot of times there was not a nurse on duty. My mom had a fall and they wouldn’t call a rescue. She ended up not getting help for 2days and she had a broken shoulder. My dad fell and ended up dying as a result. It’s so sad that their year there was miserable for them. Look at the reviews. No recent ones. They are from 2 plus years ago. I’ve had an investigation done on Mandarin Brookdale and have found they have had a lot of problems. These are our parents lives we put in your hands. Shame on this place. It’s horrible. Oh, and I didn’t mention the roaches. German roaches. I complained numerous times and they were still seen everywhere. After my dad passed from complications from his fall, my mom had to stay there a few months before we brought her into our homes. She didn’t have house keeping for a month. My sister went and cleaned her shower full of black mold on the shower floor. The blinds were full of dust. No one had vacuumed for a month. Trash kept not being picked up. The new director told me she was going to check on my mom and several weeks later had never done so. It was just one constant problem after another. It is heartbreaking to me that my dad was so unhappy there and died with that being the last place he had to live. We thought it was going to be something nice for him. Disgusting.

My parents were very dissatisfied and promises were not kept. They had a huge roach problem and when I would visit I would see live roaches , German roaches, climbing on walls, furniture, and the kitchen counter. My parents constantly complained about the food and said a lot of it was not edible. We would have to grocery shop for them every week when my mother had been looking forward to being served nice meals and were promised delicious food from a chef. A lot of times there was no nurse on duty. There was supposed to be but we were told they were understaffed. Their apartment was not kept clean like we were told. The bathroom shower mat was black with mold and window sills and blinds were covered in dust.Overall a lot of money was waisted here and my parents were so unhappy. My dad ended up dying in rehab from a fall here. So sad and disappointed about his last year of life!!!

Please think twice before placing your family member in this facility. The facility looks nice and our Mom was happy when she was up an around before Covid. They didn't allow window visits, no Face Time and wouldn't return my calls for 11 days! This is totally unacceptable in the current situation!

We have had elderly parents at Brookdale Mandarin for 8 years, but I will review current operations unless noted. Care by staff is good to very good. They're conscientious. Dining hall varies a lot month to month. Currently food is good. However, through January they were frequently running out of basic food choices, i.e. inventory management was horrible. Service used to be really slow, but that's improved. The facility is old, but they've made attempts to upgrade the last few years. Financially, annual rate increases are double to triple the rate of inflation, year after year after year. They always have excuses, but basically they charge more because they can. Our biggest negative - and it's huge - is billing. Four months ago my mother in law switched from a 2 to a 1 bedroom. Corporate is still charging the 2 bedroom rate and adding overdue charges. Today they had a collection agency call us. The local management has been pleasant and cooperative but completely ineffective at working with corporate Brookdale. This mirrors a similar problem with my own mother a few years ago. On balance, I would reluctantly not recommend Brookdale.

We have had elderly parents at this facility for 8 years, but this reviews current operations, not the last 8 years. Care is good to every good by conscientious staff, the strong point of this facility. Dining hall is inconsistent year to year. New chef last month is improvement in food quality and inventory management (they regularly ran out of basic items before he got there). However, they have not shown an ability to sustain improvement in the dining hall. Annual rate in creases are double to triple the rate of inflation, year to year to year. Facility is old but has received upgrades. Make sure you get a recently renovated room. The biggest problem - and it's huge - is billing. My mother in law switched from a 2 to 1 bedroom four months ago, and they're still charging the higher rate, plus adding charges for overdue payments, all totaling an additional several thousand dollars. Now we're being contacted by a collection agency. Local management has been courteous and cooperative but totally ineffective in working with corporate Brookdale to resolve. This mirrors a similar billing problem with my m other a few years ago.

After visiting many retirement communities, I finally found Brookdale Mandarin. I was greeted by Misti Fuller who took me on a tour of the facility. She showed me an apartment facing the pool and I immediately fell in love with it.I have been here for six months and every time I have a question or concern Misti is always there for me. I have watched her greet new people visiting here with kindness and graciousness. She is amazing. Misti is a true professional in every sense of the word.

My mother moved in when it was Emeritus. It was a very good facility and the staff and management did an excellent job. Brookdale took over and it quickly declined. There was a horrific lack of care. Without notice, Brookdale would almost double our month rate. It would fluctuate with no explanation. Brookdale is corrupt and robbing the elderly who cannot protect themselves. We moved mom out about two years ago. Her new facility is great. Lower costs and the care is excellent. Wish we had moved as soon as Brookdale took over. Avoid Brookdale - use anyone else.

Nothing but a bunch of con artists taking advantage of old people with no family or anyone to help them. The treatment a friend of mine is getting from management is by far the worst I have ever seen. Please be careful, these people will con your senior citizen family member into situations that they can’t afford then threaten you with eviction knowing they shouldn’t have put them there in the first place! Karen and Marie ( aka management) are the 2 worst people I have ever encountered in my life! Shame on y’all for taking advantage of our senior citizens that had a helping hand in making this country what it is today. Karma will eventually get you and remember this could be your mother or father in the same situation one day! STAY AWAY !! RUN !! I’m sure there are better options available !!
