February 2024 by The Truth I.
Unprofessional and disrespectful bike shop business... I contacted Zen Cog over the phone to have a minor repair done. I asked when it would be best to bring my bike in, as I was riding it in & hoping to ride it back home the same day. I was told and I quote - "That sounds like your problem, not our problem", at which point I commented on the lack of customer service and the Zen Cog owner or rep on the phone told me "FxxK You" and hung up on me. I would be hard pressed to think the owner(s) of this (or any) small business would want their business represented in this way when a customer calls for service (or maybe they do?) and it will be interesting to see how this same person addresses me when I'm standing in front of them vs. the over the phone.

Been to nearly every bike shop in Duval and they are the best for service and repairs. Their size limits their inventory so there are bigger bike shops but when you need personal attention this is the place.

Wonderful shop! Been there many times and can't recommend enough. They aren't pushy and have an excellent selection of bikes and gear in stock. Super knowledgeable and fun. They really listen and want to help you with your dream bicycle setup, whatever that means for you. I personally love Surly, and while they didn't have a Surly Krampus in stock in my size, I got to try out the one size up that they had. Fell in love with it, and they were able to get one my size shipped to them and they assembled everything for me, in just a few days. Wide assortment of pedals, saddles, racks, bags, etc to completely customize it as well. They were genuinely stoked for me. They host community bike rides on a regular basis, too. And they're a great go-to for bike repairs, maintenance, tools, etc. Zencog is the whole package and so great for Jax! Highly recommend.

Best bike shop in Jax no doubt!! Super friendly staff, great selection and they were happy to help with minor work on my Trek for cheap and on the fly! I’ll be back to spend more $$ for sure ?

We live an hour and a half away from the store, drove by several other bike shops and decided to go with the best service and customer service. We bought 3 salsa bikes and love them. Great down to earth store. Thanks again, to the whole team.

A small, family run bike shop with an outsized impact on the community. These guys go above and beyond on everything they do. Great bikes, not just lots of bikes, quality, affordable service, but we really appreciate the community rides and super fun events. ? the Honeypot Collective!

Great company. Reminds me of the LBS's in Seattle. Super attentive service, honest pricing, and main goal is to get you on a bike that works for you and in your price range.

I am updating my review a bit. It is now 08/19/23. I am updating because the owner made 3 attempts to get a hold of me In a good faith attempt to fix the issues. Unfortunately I had already fixed the issues. I will however leave my original review below untouched, but instead of avoid at all costs, I'll say just be carefull. The owner was very friendly however those issues should never have happened, mistakes happen sure, but pedals falling off, and chains not properly tightened can cause so much potential damage to the rider, the bike, or objects around them upto and including death. Hopefully he will emphasize the things that can happen with an improperly assemble bike to his employees, I know I have witnessed and experienced what can happen personally 1 improperly tightened screw had me unbalance the bike and hit concrete at 20+ mph. It wasn't fun.I agree whole heartedly with Cindy Smith. The only reason I give this place a single star is that there is no lower rating. I took my bike in for a new chain and while their I asked them to do a tune up. when I went to pick up my bike it was locked up outside the store in the rain. On my second ride my left pedal fell off this could have been a major issue as this is the pedal I dismount on. Thankfully it held on just long enough. Lastly this is a single speed bike putting a chain on shouldn't be difficult the only reason I took it in is because I got tired of procrastinating. I should have changed it myself. I kept hearing a loud thud as I rode at first I kept thinking I broke a spoke but no nothing there. Well I found out what it was when the chain fell off the spokes and jammed between the frame and rear crank. I have included 3 photos 2 of the chain. There is at least 2 extra links in this chain if not 3. How incompetent are their mechanics if they can't put a chain on a single speed crankset properly, and where is the quality control. I paid 150 for this death trap and now I am going to have to pay a bike shop I know I can trust another 100 at least to double check their "work" (and I mean work with all do sarcasm). Don't trust this place with your life.Edit. I also had difficulty with communicating with them. They send you a text with your bill which is nice. The text clearly states to reply to that text message with questions. I made 3 or 4 attempts to contact them after the bike "work" was finished to get my final bill with no responses. Their communication skills are as good as their work. Don't waste your time calling or texting you have to stop in.

A group of hard-working people and I appreciate all the effort and knowledge related to bicycles. I’m on my own small business for well over 40 years. These guys are champions. there’s no issue too big or too small that they won’t handle in a very professional wat. I’m returning and so are half a dozen other people I know that go there consistently

Zencog has been a great community resource and is the go-to bike shop for the urban core of Jacksonville. After the covid bike boom, the industry is going through a heavy contraction and it's up to the local community to keep a valued small business preserved. This is a trying time for the places that give Jacksonville its unique character.Absolutely check Garf out for accessories as they have the widest selection I've ever seen in jax. Also, their bike collection is unparalleled in diversity. This is the only store I've ever seen with a flying pidgeon (pheonix now) on the sales floor. I know they will make things square if there's issues with their service, they've always worked things out for me in the past.
