I have had nothing but a great experience at Key Largo Avis. Nash is always kind and helpful and they answer the phone!!! I am very pleased and I highly recommend Avis car rental.

Want to have the worst possible travel experience of your life? Love sitting outside, stranded amongst the heat and humidity of Florida during the hottest part of the day in the middle of Summer? Do you love getting frustrated and having your calls go unanswered after broken promises?! Then look no further than Avis/Budget Key Largo, where reservations mean nothing and customer service doesn't exist.
The station manager called to inform me the day of that my reservation wouldn't be honored, that I might have better luck going with another rental car company due to a "lack of inventory". After promising me he'd remain at the station while awaiting additional returns, multiple unanswered calls led to our arrival to find multiple cars sitting outside of their offices. After their office closed at 1pm on a Saturday, we were advised to travel to Homestead where there were other vehicles awaiting or nearly an hour drive or $217 Uber. We were not offered any type of assistance in getting to this location. Upon arrival at Homestead, we were again informed that there were no rentals available and we'd have better luck at Miami International Airport, or nearly another hour drive away.
These car rental companies absolutely suck, they do not care about you, their customers or their employees. Their corporate lines lead to people that do not care about you or your problems, and would rather hang up the line on you than assist you in whatever way possible. Reservations mean nothing, and rebooking attempts the day of lead to inflated costs and hours lost during travel and time off of work.
As 90% of the time these reviews are only left to disgruntled guests, I want to post this to possibly save your vacation and prove to their corporate office this location shouldn't exist. The "inventory" that wasn't available was sitting in their lot, and their office that was suppose to be opened was unoccupied during business hours. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION OR BUSINESS, YOU WILL BE MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTED.

We had trouble with our car as it was shaking so when we picked up the car from our airport it was totally fine until we drove to key largo and it shooked a lot we felt unsafe in it and went to Avis to exchange it. When we got there the guy behind the counter said he had no cars even though there were 3 of them sitting outside he said to call roadside assistance so we did and we were on the phone for an hour when they said a car was being brought back to Avis so we had to go back with our unsafe car. We were glad we made it there but when we went inside and asked the man where the car was he said he doesn’t know what we were talking about but after about a few minutes of waiting with him we ended up getting one of the cars outside we said thank you and all he did was go back inside. Bad communication and he didn’t seem to want to work.

Pre Paid and Booked for a particular type of car. Got a call an hour before pick up and was told that the car was not available. I requested a refund but was told to call reservations as he did not have time to organise a refund.

By far one of the poorest customer service and car renting experiences I’ve ever had. Arrived and walked inside, deshelved man behind the counter didn’t even bother to look up at me and say “hello” or “welcome” or anything just kept staring at the computer and finally said “one minute”. When he finally acknowledged me I gave him my information for my reservation he then proceeded to say he didn’t have the size car I had requested. He then said all he could do was the next size up, ok not a problem. He asked for my credit card and proceeded to tell me I didn’t have enough on the card and stated for my $190 rental I needed over $500 on the card for a “deposit “. My wife was on the phone and also spoke with him as she had made the reservation and said she never saw anything about a deposit. He was extremely rude with her despite her not being nearly as assertive as she could have been. After he wouldn’t back down that I needed over $500 for my rental for the “deposit”, he handed me the keys and stated I was not welcome back. The building itself was filthy and looked like a storage closet turned into an office space. I wouldn’t be nearly as displeased if he had just simply explained how their system works. 0/5 DO NOT RECOMMEND

Terrible experience. No car available even though I arrived an hour after the arrange pick up time. Told I would have to wait for a car. Could not give me any idea how long I would have to wait. Could be hours. I enquired about an upgrade, which was of course available for an additional charge. While I was there, at least three others came in with the same issue. One saying it happened the last time she rented from them. Clearly a regular occurance. In the end, we accepted the upgrade fee because we just wanted to get on the road. The car we were given was not cleaned. Cigarette lighter, empty water bottle, etc rolling around in the back and the car STUCK OF CIGARETTE SMOKE. Went back in thinking we might get another one but was just told it would be noted so we were not charged for cleaning! I don't necessarily blame the guy behind the counter. He was clearly suffering from PTSD of doing his job. AVIS needs to review this franchise immediately. The office is a mess. The service is a mess. The car was a mess. Reflects very poorly on the AVIS name. Do yourself a favor and rent from someone else in this part of the world. **Update: After getting the final receipt, it does appear that we were not charged for the upgrade.

I had a problem with my carI reserved a car from Miami airport a specific car because I have a disabiled and they gave me another one telling me they can not do anythingTo put the wheelchair i had always to take away the wheel it was crazyBut the man in key largo understand me and help me changing the car thank yo very much you are very nice

Would be zero stars if the rating was available. Arrived for a 1pm collection to find the office closed with no notice posted. Only when I enquired later (on my bus to Key West) was I told that no cars were available, a fact that would have saved me two Uber trips and 30 minutes cooking in an empty car lot had I known it earlier. If Avis is my only transport option in the future, I'll likely walk to my destination.

This particular location is shockingly mismanaged .The office is filthy and smells like literal garbage . The car given to me was filthy and was not fuelled to the level indicated in contract . ( the attendant left promptly after I retrieved vehicle , putting a sign up on door and consequently thwarted my issue with fuel ) . Vacuums and cleaning supplies strung out in parking lot .On another occasion , the attendant tried charge me an extra day when the vehicle came back 9 minutes over return time .. ( thankfully Avis refunded this as there typically is a 30 min grace period ) ..Have very low expectations if you need to rent here and ensure you take pictures of your gas gauge and vehcile condition / return time .

This was the day we were driving to Key Largo. My rental car had a flat tire and it was the weekend, so the car repair places were closed. Payless told me I would have to drive to Miami to get a new car (on a spare!). They are under the same parent company as Avis, but the Avis in Key Largo is independently owned, so they said it was up to him if he wanted to give me a different car. They took absolutely no responsibility for it. The owner of the Avis in Key Largo gave us another, very nice car under the same rental agreement. Couldn't have been easier and I was SO grateful. For that they get 4 stars, well deserved.

I placed a reservation for 1pm then called to confirm my reservation. I went to call the guy I talked to back to let him know I would be there at 1pm since this is when they close. He shut the phones off at 12:50 so I got the automated answering service who was no help. My husband and I get to the Avis and he man was inside finishing with another customer, who luckily for us was nice enough to give us a ride back to our hotel because the guy working wouldn't give us our rental bc it was 1pm and he locked the doors. I can't believe a company would be ok with having someone come get their rental then leaving them stranded all because it was an inconvenience to get out of work a little late. So now going forward I will reconsider rental a vehicle from Avis since this was the absolute worst experience and customer service I have ever witnessed and received. And anyone who asks about renting a vehicle I will steer elsewhere.

Nash is unbelievably nice, and considerate. He helped my dad and I both multiple times. Can't say how much I appreciate him and his great service! Just treat him kindly and he will go the extra mile!
