My mother was deeply disrespected at this store. Being Brazilian, she doesn’t speak English fluently and is used to being assisted in Spanish. She politely asked an employee, “Do you speak Spanish?” and the employee said, “Yes.”
Then my mother did her best to ask in Spanish where certain items were. The rude and ignorant employee responded in Portuguese, saying, “This is not Spanish, it’s Portuguese,” mocking and belittling my mother’s effort to communicate in Spanish.
If she was Brazilian too, she could have smiled and said, “Hi, I’m Brazilian, I’ll help you.” But instead, her response was to humiliate and demean my mother.
No member of my family will ever set foot in this store again.
