My female Chihuahua is large. A deer head, one of the larger varieties. Never leash trained, so I bring her in a carrier. Visit for regular nail trimmings. They are always happy to see her and do it with a smile. They care about your dogs and listen to your concerns and are truly glad for your business.

I moved to Lake Wales in 2001 with a 3 yr old feral hog, which was our pet. I was referred to VCA for their big animal care, at the time I also had 4 dogs, 8.cats & a bird. There was a specialist at Lake Wales Animal Hosp for every type of pet I owned. I was amazed at their knowledge & most of all care & love for my pets. I've since lost those pets, with VCA's tender touch I survived. My pet load is different today but my vet choice is the same, as it ALWAYS will be. I've recommended them to everyone I know since day one.

My dog has been a patient at the Lake Wales animal hospital for over 9 years. I would have never taken him any where else. On May 1, 2020 I was told he had bone cancer and a disease of his joints. He had 2 wonderful vets who worked so hard to manage his pain. After a while we found that mixing 2 meds helped him so much that he was like a puppy again. Since then they changed to VCA only 1 vet to handle what 5 vets were doing. When I went to get his meds I was told that does not work on dogs and I could not get the one medication. I am so mad that I think he should lose his license. My poor dog is suffering again and I am going to report him to someplace.

I am so grateful to Amy for how she helped me. I called very panicked and overwhelmed but she was able to make me feel completely at ease by the end. She was professional, knowledgeable, empathetic, and incredibly kind. I truly needed that and it’s very hard to find these days so I just wanted to make sure I voiced my appreciation. This is definitely the place you want to go to find people that care about you and your fur babies. This is where they will treat them like family too.

I had the best experience today with Dr Juillerat, his tech and two receptionists. I understand that Dr Juillerat is not a permanent doctor here, but if he were every one of my fur babies would be seeing him. Thank you for being so kind and informative. I only wish I got the tech and receptionists names to shout out to y’all personally as well.

This incident occurred over a year ago but I still feel very strongly about it.I adopted a kitten through the rehoming program of Polk County Humane Society. I officially took responsibility for him, Peanut, and his sister, Coconut, on August 4th, 2021. They’re only previous veterinary care consisted of a FVRCP vaccine, FELV/FIV test, intestinal parasite evaluation and litter deworming on June 10, 2021. I knew due to their veterinary timeline that I needed to get them into a vet for vaccinations and further evaluation as soon as possible, but when I called the VCA of Lake Wales and explained the circumstance the earliest appointment they would offer was on August 30th. I specifically asked the receptionist whether this delay in veterinary care was acceptable and she assured me that it was.Peanut’s health began to rapidly decline on August 23rd; I noticed over the course of the weekend prior that he had stopped eating and wasn’t going to the bathroom. I alerted the VCA to this development and they agreed to examine him. They conducted a routine exam, general bloodwork, an ultrasound guided cystocentesis, and a radiograph urinary bladder study. It was determined that he had a UTI and severe hookworm infection. Jennifer Waltman, DVM, explained to me that the radiographs showed “no visible abnormalities” but there was “a lot of stool in the colon.” Peanut was treated with subcutaneous fluids, dewormer, steroids, antibiotics and an injection to help with appetite. Over the following days his appetite did not improve, he wasn’t drinking water and I had resorted to attempting to syringe feed fluids. On August 25th, I returned home from work after the VCA had closed for the day and found Peanut extremely lethargic with his nose to the floor. Urgently, I took him to the emergency vet in Dundee. He was found to be extremely dehydrated and was again administered subcutaneous fluids, a vitamin injection, and more antibiotics. His condition continued to decline and on Sunday, August 29th, I returned with him to the emergency vet. After they conducted radiographs, I was informed he was suffering from intestinal torsion and my only two options were to elect for surgery, which I was told was very unlikely to be successful, or euthanasia. That Sunday I had to say goodbye to Peanut.I literally had to witness him needlessly suffer for the week of August 23-29, 2021. I suspect the intestinal torsion could have been discovered with the initial radiographs but was overlooked. Ultimately, I’ll never know if his life could have been saved if I had been able to obtain veterinary care for him in a more timely manner.Edit: I attempted to address these concerns with the Lake Wales VCA as they requested in their response, in turn I received this message: “Dr. Waltman is no longer with VCA Lake Wales so I am not able to discuss your concerns with her, but I can assure you this will be discussed with the Hospital Manager, Medical Director and team.” As far as I’m concerned, this is an empty, shallow bid to appear to care.

My baby boy Killer began having massive seizures and lost his vision in the span of 2 hours. He was 18 years old and knew he was suffering. I called VCA as soon as I could as they were actually the only place open that early and or that answered when I called. I was able to hold him in my arms to his very last breath. The staff was amazing and very caring. They did right by him. His ashes were ready promptly so we could take him home. God bless your staff and thank you for your compassion.

You should know that Baby has died in my arms a couple nights ago. He was very uncomfortable, had suffered a lot in the last few days. So VCA did great refusing to refill a prescription for some salt water that would have kept him comfortable. However, I also understand that your priority was to make a few more hundred dollars by running some useless tests on a dying old cat. Your duty as veterinarians was "fulfilled". I hope everybody reads reviews before coming there with their pets, because people should know who they are dealing with. Pets for most people are members of their family. If they bring a member of their family to VCA, he/she will be reduced to being a way for someone to buy the last model of a German car on the market. Soon enough VCA will start charging for entering through the front door, because it's a circus in there, just not a funny show.
