What a perfect experience. This place brings you waaaaay back- you don’t even feel like you’re in Florida anymore. Our waitress, Benita, was absolutely wonderful. She was so personable when sharing the entire menu (verbally) with us, showing us around the restaurant & suggesting the crab cakes was the best part! We are not crab cake “people” but the cakes here are worth the trip alone. 11/10, thank you, we will be back!!

Food was great. Famous hearts of palm salad was tasty. Friendly server. Unique location and history. It is certainly run down.BUT. Boat captain very rude. They don't really want outdoor quests. Hostess and waiter warned us of sever attacks by mosquitoes and flies when we arrived. But all turned out fine. Didn't see one bug. They were just to lazy to go outside to serve. Tables were wobbley.Have our doubts of all the "famous" guests that dined there.

Fantastic place. We brought a friend who flew in from NY (they brought us really, it was their recommendation) and we had a phenomenal time. It’s a short boat ride to the restaurant, the food was top-notch, the service was sensible and timely, and the ambience was really something too. We will absolutely be back.

A client recommended this place and I finally made a point to get there. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to rate the food because we didn’t stayI made a 6:30 reservation but received an email on the way that 6:30 is taken, 8:00 was available. I took it and thought we could have a drink and an appetizer in the bar area while we wait. The small bar sits about five people and the seats were taken. There were three round tables with dirty glasses and dishes. We stood at the bar waiting to order a drink and wanting to sit. About 5 minutes later still not acknowledged by the very slow moving elderly lady behind the bar who ignored me twice when I asked if we could order when she’s free. We stood trying to avoid clutter on the bar where there were no stools). So then we ventured outside to a patio area thinking maybe we will have a seat out there and try the bar later. Until we walked outside to 3 old rusty tables. Rustic is one thing but cheap and uncaring is another. Strike 2.We walked in to the restaurant area to see if there was an area to sit or get a drink while we wait. She sent us back to the filthy bar with no service. Steee-rike 3. We cancelled the reservation and made another one at La Veranda where, get this…the host greets you and seats you and with a smile!!! The seafood was incredible.I thought maybe Caps staff was having a bad day but after reading a handful of of reviews and comments on the rude older ladies I don’t want to spend that kind of money and leave feeling robbed of positive energy. I mean, sheesh. All we wanted was a clean place to sit and a chance to spend some money. Epic fail. The food reviews were mostly good so even though I didn’t get to try anything, kudos to the chef. I don’t like leaving low star reviews but the atmosphere was uninviting and unclean. The service was nonexistent. If they hired a bus boy and an efficient bartender maybe a cleaner, I would consider coming back and trying the crabcakes the boat captain recommends to each boat full of people.

The place really sucks! The Lady who said she owned the place was rude & just plain nasty!! It looks terribly run down & so did the so called owner. I have lived in Lighthouse Point since 2007, & will NEVER return to that so called restaurant!

Fantastic and Romantic experience. Took my girlfriend there for her birthday. Short ferry ride to the restaurant. Food fantastic. Seafood broiled combo and crab cakes were delicious. The waiter sang happy birthday to my girlfriend. Friendly and historical restaurant.

For 20, maybe 30 years I've heard and read about this place. Finally I got my friend to actually drive me to it. It's authentic. I loved the atmosphere, it smells of old wood, not unpleasant, decorated with funky old Florida primitive paintings, nautical bric-a-brac and ancient framed newspaper and magazine clippings. The menu is pleasingly short, not overburdened with choices. Our party of three ate very well with high-quality ingredients. The seafood platter had some of the sweetest-tasting scallops I've eaten and some nicely sized shrimp. The crab cakes were outstanding, big pieces of crabmeat nestled in a delicious breading. The swamp cabbage (heart of palm) salad was terrific, served with a seasoned mayonnaise. Our outstanding waiter came by showing us the actually heart of the palm tree from which our salads were made. The key lime was on point, not too sweet with a lovely tangy tartness on a slightly crisp crust. The bar was closed but they did pour me a scotch to begin, and kept the Heinekens coming during my meal. An altogether a memorable meal, including a free boat ride!

It’s a nice boat ride. The food is better at Denny’s. I won’t be back. Cool atmosphere. I suggest taking the boat over, enjoying an appetizer then going for a nice dinner elsewhere.
