Really happy to have this wonderful organization in our area! While we did not adopt our two rescue parrots from MARS(they came from a rescue in south Florida), we recently boarded with LuAnn and her volunteer staff since they are closer to our home and our bird boys were well taken care of, happy, and healthy when we returned home from our trip. They were able to get their nails and beaks trimmed while boarding which was so nice to have done when we returned, and LuAnn was very informative of how they did while we were away. Communication to get boarding drop off and pick up scheduled was easy, just keep in mind that their work at the rescue is very hands on so allow them plenty of time to respond. Since we adopted our birds 3.5 months ago, I have quickly learned that it is impossible to have your phone attached to your hand while cleaning cages or interacting with them, so it is unreasonable to expect an immediate response to an email or phone call given the nature of their work. When we dropped off for boarding, we were able to take a quick tour of the rescue. They have so many beautiful birds with great personalities waiting for a home it was hard for me to not want to adopt more LOL but fortunately these birds have this sanctuary and the kind people volunteering to take care of them until then. I highly recommend MARS if you are looking to add a bird to your family or need a safe place for your birds to stay while you travel. It is very apparent that they love the birds and are very knowledgeable. If you are able, please consider volunteering or donating because the rescue work in our area is invaluable. Thanks MARS for taking care of Picasso & Pesto!

I'm glad I waited to leave this review initially it would gave been 5 stars and littered with enthusiasm about such an awesome rescue and how easy they are to work with.....Well this is one week later and what can I say ?Let's start with the adoption process after emailing the application and paying a $25 donation application fee we were contacted and talked in great detail about what kind of bird we.were looking for and how they could be compared to what birds were available for adoption. After this came a home check which we passed with flying colors. The following week we drove 2 hours to the rescue to meet birds that matched us .Initially we're only going to adopt to One bird but my wife fell in love with a cockatoo called crystal and i fell in love with a macaw called molly. We initially told them we would take Crystal, but on the drive home and that following evening with much discussion we decided to adopt them them both. After we informed the rescue of this, we found out that both birds were rescued from the same place, so being adopted together would be awesome and good for the birds Long story short, we adopted them both. They even let us buy a macaw from them and I bought a cage for the cockatoo. They even supplied perches and bowls for all the cages and left us toys and bird food for both birds. On top of that they gave us 2 travel cages in case we needed to transport them to a vet.See why a 5 star review was coming ?They even posted on their facebook page Saying thank you for the preapproved adoption paperwork and congratulations on the adoption.I then got a text saying they wanted to do a checkup on the birds on that wednesday, which would have been a week since the adoption. This was then rescheduled for today Friday, August 11th. Again this was just a " check up"When they arrived I welcomed them into our home without a word they went straight for theBirds.Telling us this isn't a social visit we are here to take the birds i was like what the heck ?They then told me that 3 people had called telling them we shouldn't own animals. Now remember the preapproved adoption paperwork that was a result of a home check and a reference check?Apparently that meant nothing but here say from people they have never met means everything .So these poor birds went from the home they were in for 20 years plus to a rescue to another home that doted on them and back to the rescue. They did refund us the money but I don't care about thati want our birds back. Now if they are wiling to call me and discuss the concerns and allow us to readopt them then i will change this review to the ariginal as I truly believe that what they did was wrong it left my disabled wife in tears and I'm sure put unnecessary stress on the birds.

Wouldn't pick up their phone or respond to emails. We get there to look and they aren't open to the public.

I inquired about an Umbrella Cockatoo named Sunny a couple of years ago. I had to make a donation before they would reveal much information. Just a scummy way to get donations if you ask me. LuAnn put me in touch with another lady named Caren. We went through the whole application process. Called my references etc. She was supposed to stop by home to ensure the environment would be a good fit. She emailed me and said she was unavailable that week. Then she disappeared, and never replied to me again. Just another shady business hiding behind the perks of being a "non profit - rescue".

I recently adopted a sun conure from MARS and recieved so much help from Lu. You can tell all birds are taken care of so well. The adoption process was reasonable and easy and Lu even showed me how to clip my new bird's nails before we left. Definitely recommend anyone adopting from this rescue, as lu and the rescue itself is just lovely.

Can not get a straight answer from them if you need help. Slow response time. Told them I needed help asap and needed to have a bird rehomed in 2 weeks. Almost 2 weeks later & they are giving me the run around
