Don't buy gas here. Unless there's some secret discount thing for Valero, the gas price at this station is ALWAYS one of, if not the, highest on the island. Go across the street to Sunoco, hell even 7-11 is a better choice. There's no good reason for the gas here to be 10-30 cents higher than the rest of the island. -- Another story of a new employee who lies to people's faces... Cashier asks me to take out my ID, I ask for what purpose, she says she needs to swipe it. I decline. She stammers and says that's the only way it can be done, the register does not take any other input. Asks why, I said I don't consent to the collection and sale of my information by you to a third party. The other employee chimes in and says it's store policy...to take out the ID. To see it or scan it. That's absolutely fine, I agree to seeing it. Look at it, bite it and see if it's real, just can't scan it. She looks at it and clearly has a brain (I was surprised, honestly, because usually employees ban together and then invent a federal law saying I have to submit my ID to scanning or I'm some sort of criminal), which I appreciate, and matter-of-factly with a hint of sass notes my birthdate, that it isn't expired, and says it's clearly me and tells the other employee to enter my birthdate. The other employee is still 'playing' d*** when my birthdate is entered like it's some sort of voodoo magic (on the same damn screen...every place has the same exact screen, it was clear and obvious where to enter the birthdate and that it was acceptable). I was like, 'Wow, looks like you just entered my birthdate in a system that can't accept anything but swiping my ID!'. She f***** up the transaction when I swiped my debit card so I had to do it again and then snarked at me, 'You know, that has just as much information about you on it.' And I wasn't about to go into a 5 minute lecture on the difference and simply said that the information submitted to my bank was of my own choice, I don't have a choice when an employee lies to me, takes my card, and swipes it to sell the info for profit. Which, to add to that, I submit my personal information to banks usually with a disclaimer that my information will not be used outside of specific purposes (credit, etc) and in exchange gain access to a bank account, credit, FDIC insurance, so on and so fourth. The ATM terminal is an encrypted transaction and unless she just admit to me there's a swiper in there, they get no more than necessary for a transaction and either way, I'm reimbursed/protected from any misuse of any information obtained... When my ID is taken and scanned I sign no disclaimer, no waiver, and it (in most of the U.S.) is considered consent to harvest any information obtainable and use it in whatever manner they deem fit. While FL statute says that they can not sell it IN FLORIDA, they are allowed to collect it and transfer it to a server where ever there are no such laws and sell it as they please. Every time I scan my ID a new scammer is calling my phone, sending me junk mail, and I'm signed up for more pre-approved cards and b******** No thanks. UPDATE: There's a new sign on the register that I saw today while grabbing a gallon of milk. 'As of 2/16 we MUST scan your ID.' No exceptions. I think it's cute. I'm glad they didn't put a false claim of a law on there. Know that if you buy age-restricted goods there and let them scan your ID, you WILL be receiving spam mail and possibly email, too, if you gave it to the DMV. Have fun!
