We are central florida locals and just needed a quick getaway for me and my fiancé. Mt Dora is delightful. The location is right next to downtown. The house is amazing, the rooms are gorgeous and comfortable, and the owners are warm and inviting. Pet friendly with well maintained grounds and a pool. Breakfast was delicious! We will definitely visit again. Thanks.

Amazing overnight stay-cation for me and my teenage daughter to escape the hustle and bustle of Orlando. The room we first picked was quaint and pristine, but the queen bed was a bit to small for both of us to share (my error in judgment). Margie the host was so kind and gracious to let us change rooms since it was not too busy, and even refunded me the difference! The common areas were ornately decorated in Victorian style, and we enjoyed being able to roam about the sitting and dining rooms. The pool was beautiful and clean, and was a tranquil, tropical oasis. We had a wonderful, peaceful night’s sleep, as the beds were comfy and the estate was so quiet, even though set off from a busy road. The only thing to note is that the trees and vegetation is now overgrown so you can’t see the lake from the rooms. Still amazing views nonetheless. In the morning we had a wonderful breakfast with fruit, nut bread, gourmet scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, and tea in the quaint and beautiful dining room.Start to finish, staying at Heron Cay was a wonderful little getaway. Look forward to returning…worth every penny; highly recommend.

We really enjoyed Heron Cay B&B. We stayed on the 3rd floor Queen Victoria room and loved wandering the house looking at the dozens of Highwaymen paintings the owners collected. Our host was wonderful, very helpful, and made a killer breakfast both days.

MAGICAL!We've stayed at many B&B's over the years, but this one is by far, our favorite. The cuisine was delicious, colorful and artistically displayed, the atmosphere was beautifully eclectic, our room was spacious and very reasonably priced, and the innkeeper and her staff were all sweet as could be.This was a tranquil piece of paradise in an otherwise hectic world!Rooms: The rooms were all different. Our ARUBA room was on the 3rd floor and was very private, comfortable and quiet. It came equipped with a hair dryer and a refrigerator, plenty of pillows, a nook with a table for two and a sitting area with a couch, chair and coffee table. Everything we needed was at our fingertips.Nearby activities: Mt. Dora is noted for its fabulous downtown area. There were plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlors and more. The boutique shops were lovely, and the gift shops were fun with great items for sale.Safety: Doors were locked including the Inn's front door.Walkability: Just 4 easy, walkable blocks from the center of town where all the restaurants and shops are located.Food & drinks: Delicious coffee, fresh OJ, great variety of teas and plentiful bottled water.Noteworthy details: The architecture of the building was truly outstanding. There were lots of windows, and the dining area was especially well appointed, bright, cheerful and elegant. We enjoyed all the ceramic figurines throughout the Inn, ... the fine china made our dining experience extremely memorable, ... and the Highwaymen paintings that hung on all the walls made us feel like we were in a fine art gallery. We really loved this place!

We needed a few days away and wanted to return to Mt. Dora. I saw the picture and reviews for Heron Cay B & B and knew this was the place to be during the holidays. Margie, the owner was the sweetest, homemade food delicious, and the Inn was more than I expected.

I would not recommend this B and B. I stayed in the most expensive room for my 30th wedding anniversary. The room was never touched while we were there for the weekend. One would assume at the very least the bed would be made.In regards to the breakfast, I found it to be a one fits all type. If you don't like poached eggs, too bad. I love my eggs sunny side up, and to dip my toast into the liquid yoke. However, the eggs were overcooked and the yoke was too hard to dip anything into it.So, I would say pass on this B and B. It is not within walking distance of downtown, the food was subpar, and it was overpriced for the service one would expect for a $300 a night room.

Beautiful rooms, yummy breakfast, and just a short distance to the newly improved downtown with a lot happening each day! You can see the lake and relax in the gardens. I would definitely recommend this place.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Heron Cay for our anniversary for a night and the only downside to our stay was I wish we would’ve stayed longer! Margie made a great breakfast and was very nice and hospitable. She even let us meet her dog Ringo who we loved. The location was perfect and had a very convenient walking trail to downtown mount dora- which was great because mount dora had pretty much no open parking spots. The place itself was so cute and seemed very clean, I saw some reviews saying otherwise but it is an old building so you can’t expect everything to be perfect and new, plus it adds to the charm. I hope to be back soon

An amazing place! The rooms are all (yes, we were able to peek into most of them) beautiful and filled with period furniture. The prioritress is a great cook and undoubtedly trying to make breakfast the only meal I need for the day! I totally recommend you stay here for your next visit to Mt. Dora.Did I mention the perfect pool?!

There was good and bad to our 1 night stay here. The house is a beautiful Victorian style replica that was built in the 1990's. It is currently for sale and in need of some upkeep. It's a great location in proximity to Mt. Dora, but you can hardly see the lake. The room was spacious, but the walls are thin. The biggest disappointment was the personalized touch that normally is the B&B difference. The owner really seemed unhappy as if she couldn't wait to sell the place. For example, one of the biggest things they promote is breakfast. The owner came as as we were sitting in the dining room. I'm thinking she's coming out to greet us and the other guests and started making small talk. In reality, she was only coming to tell my husband and I that she wouldn't make eggs 2 ways and we had to choose one or the other. We thought this hilarious as the server asked us how we wanted them cooked. He chose scrambled, I chose over easy(not complicated.) The food however was really good. Once remodeled and in the hands of an owner who cares, it could be a really quaint and lovely place.

Had never been to a B&B - WHile the owner was quite nice, she did not know we were coming, Although I had spoken to her and had a confirmation which we had to show her. She gave us an upgrade. The room had not been cleaned in some time. While the B&B said pet friendly we were unaware they had 3 cants and 2 dogs. I have slight allergies to cats but with the dust, spider webs and lack of cleaning it was more than we could take. We checked out early and while we explained why we were leaving there was no offer of a refund. Next time we will go with an established hotel.

We loved this place once. This time, we booked a room here for an overnight. My son developed the flu and a high temperature and we called to cancel about 30 hours before our check-in. They INSISTED on charging a deposit. REFUSED to discuss it. Now they’ve lost a returning customer FOREVER. I hope you enjoy your $25.
