It's definitely easier but not worth 300+ more dollars. Do it yourself. I've been going for 7+ years to HR Block and have never got a discount or any extra protection thrown in. I'll just do it myself and save money. I like that it's easier but the price gouging is ridiculous.

Been using hrblock for a decade now and I like the piece of mind of being able to get instant answers and advice while doing taxes. And the emerald card advance is nice to have.

I went to H&R Block to get my taxes done on April 14, 2015 @ the Tarpon Springs location. The associate took over an hour to complete our taxes. After said hour, she stated, "that'll be $770." The associate's name is Ann Hayes. When I had asked why the preparation of my taxes was so much money, she said, "Well, you have trust and limited partnerships." I only had four trust and six limited partnerships. I also had a very minuscule amount of self-employment paperwork that took her less than ten minutes to include in our taxes. In addition, she included my W2 which took her all of two minutes to put in the paperwork. The point of this is Facebook post is to warn other customers that have limited partnerships, trusts, and self-employment paperwork to refrain from doing business at H&R Block. They charge you a fee for every paper they fill out and I have an inch thick of papers. We put a dispute in with our credit card company only to find out that they, meaning H&R Block, settled our dispute for us and sent us a measly $75 off coupon for next year. They don't seem to understand that we are not interested in going back next year or ever. We called the 800 customer service hotline and asked for someone to call us in regards to this issue. As of this date, no one has called us back and we are still eagerly awaiting a phone call. I told the associate that prepared our taxes that this fee was excessive and uncalled for. She never once told us that we didn't have to pay the cost of the taxes if we were unhappy with the price. $770 later we found out via a longtime customer that we did not have to pay the cost of the preparation of the taxes if we were unhappy. When questioning her, Ann Hayes, about the cost, she stated, "Well, don't blame me. It's the two owners not me." As of this date, we have had to put another dispute in with our credit card company and we are still awaiting a meaningful and worthwhile resolution from H&R Block.

What a bad experience I had with this location. 1st, I called and spoke to an accountant and briefly described my situation. I drove for Uber and Lyft. Uber gave a 1099K and Lyft gave a 100 MISC. This was my only income. I asked for a ballpark estimate and was told around $150 (which seemed normal as that is what I have always paid). When I got there, after the info was entered, the bill was $481. I was missing my sons social security number so I said I would come back and that I cannot pay that much and for the person helping me (Crystal) to see what she could do to get the price down. She called me the next day. She said they could take $100 off my bill. I then asked to speak to her manager. Another woman got on the phone and I explained that that another firm does my personal tax return for $175 and that I have always paid around that much. She (the manager) said to bring in a receipt and that they will match it. So next day (April 15, 2015) I went in to finish them. Another accountant helped me as Crystal wasn't in. There was a 1099-INT for $22 that I made in interest and a 1099-C cancellation of debt that I needed to enter or add to the other forms. This pushed my new bill from them to $541. I then showed the accountant the receipt for a past tax preparation fee (as the manager said to). She showed it to the manager. Then the manager came in (Marisol R) to discuss. She said she could not honor that price and that if I had an estimate from another accounting firm that she could honor it. I asked her why didn't she tell me that in the first place as that's what I would have done (call another firm and get an estimate). She said she didn't talk to me. I said, "are you accusing me of lying?" I also asked if she were the only female manager in the building and she said yes she was. She said that Crystal was the one who told me that. I said, "Mam, I asked to speak to a manager and a woman different than her got on the phone and she said that I could bring in a receipt (not an estimate). Now that my taxes are done and its the last day to file and you tell me you can't honor the price on the receipt I have from past tax preparations??" She said, "You did not speak to me. You spoke to Crystal and we cannot go that low on our prices." I said, well, I will simply let anyone else considering using your services by leaving this horrible experience on Google. So, I went home and used Turbo Tax. Because of the 1099-K, their software pushed my price up to $104.99. It took me 15 minutes from start to finish and will NEVER try to use H & R Block ever again.
