On Top of the World

On Top of the World is a large adult retirement community in Ocala, known for its beautiful homes, beautiful streets, and nice neighborhoods with tree canopies. It offers a country feeling different from larger Florida cities. The community is noted for having the best retirement package in the US, with good prices on anything sold within the community. The list of amenities and things to do is extensive, filling an 80-page magazine. Outdoor recreational facilities are great, featuring several pools and activity centers. The wood shop is fully furnished with tools and machines. There is an equestrian center about 15 minutes away. However, some amenities receive mixed feedback. The card rooms are described as dreary, essentially using bridge tables with chairs, and lacking compared to other communities. With the exception of the Pub, which is small and does not serve breakfast, there is no community cafe or bistro for eating, and the Pub could use a makeover. The homes are beautiful and well priced. The community has many very nice people, and most residents are friendly, know their neighbors, and look out for each other. While the community is generally very nice, an experience with gate security was noted as incredibly rude, involving a potential buyer being told to u-turn and wait outside the property instead of being directed to the sales office. Despite this, the overall impression of the place is that it is a great adult community with lots to do, where many wonderful friends are made.
