We had such a great experience! Dr. Murphy took such great care of our little one. The team was great with after care check-ins and snuggled our little Alfie after his surgery.

This place gives me a sense that I'm free to travel and that my African Grey will be well taken care of so that I don't have to worry. Had our first avian examination here a few months ago and was super impressed with how thorough they are. I thought I was fairly strict with my avian husbandry, but damn they are SUPER strict!! Hahaha. They provide what they feel is best for the animals. I appreciate that they're trying to educate everyone for the benefit of the birds. Luckily I passed with flying colors and was told I'm doing a great job. They are clearly used to handling parrots! I've never boarded my Grey before, he's been with me four years and he's either always traveled with me or I've had a family member stay with him. But now that I live here in FL and only have 1 other family member, I'm going to need another option - and this is a GREAT one! All the employees here seemed super sweet. My guy boarded here for 9 days and I was so worried about him being in a foreign place with overwhelming noises and chaos - but he really seemed to enjoy it! They were awesome about taking him out of the cage a few times a day to let him stretch and feel some freedom. He seemed to really enjoy being here and bonded with one of the girls who spent a lot of time with him. They sent me a couple pics/videos while he was there. They played some music, he got to "talk" and compare sounds with several other birds (including several other Greys!) who were there at the same time. While he was super happy to see me when i picked him up, I could tell that he was totally at ease during his time there. No signs of anxiety at all!! Yaaaayy!!! They even gave him a cute little report card, which i think is an adorable little touch. The office is easy to find, right on 19. It's bright and clean and friendly. They have a couple "house birds" in the main entry who are always fun to say Hi to. My only complaints are: - 1) that the cage he has to be in is fairly small and doesn't have normal perches (incubator), since he's fully flighted and I'm not willing to clip him. I wish they had some other larger options. But the fact that they take him out several times per day makes up for it - 2) they do charge much higher prices than other local boarding options, but again i think that comes down to how much time they're actually spending handling the birds - 3) They are not open on Sundays, and have a small window on Saturdays to pick-up/drop-off, so what this meant for me is that on my last trip i only should've had to board him 7 days but based on their timing I was forced to board for 9 days (which is also a significant additional cost, paying for 2 extra days that are unnecessary from MY side). Having said all this - I'll be back! I think they are great, and i appreciate the care that they put into the boarders. I also appreciate having a sweet staff. Definitely highly recommended!!

I brought my 2 yr old Quaker Parrot to Dr. Murphy. I just wanted a basic exam and to gain knowledge on how to best care for our new addition. He was so kind and knowledgeable. I really appreciate how he took the time to educate me on care. He went over feeding (we're switchingto pellets) , and housing and entertaining our bird. He educated me on proper nutrition. I never felt pressured to receiving anything I did not want. They gave me a tour of the back. I saw the bird hotel, for future use. I couldn't have imagined a better experience. Everyone was so kind in the office.

Unless you want your animals to die don’t bring your pets here!!!! I’ve been a customer of this vet for many years and first hand witnessed the pathetic care they offer while robbing you in return and it’s a straight joke! If you care about your pet bring them anywhere else!

This office doesnt care about animals unless they make money from them. This office is in a plaza directly behind my house and they walk their SICK dogs behind my fence. This not only agitates my dogs, but all 5 of my dogs over the past 23 years have gotten diseases passed on to them that I have to take my dogs to a different vet to get taken care of. I have asked numerous times for them not to walk diseased animals to urinate on my fence and pass along whatever ailment they have to my dogs. I have called Zoning, the Health department, and even Animal control, and here's a surprise, no Government agency want's to do their job. They are horrible people, loud and rude yelling behind my house to each other across the parking lot, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Doesnt matter if I have people of family over for a Party, they still do it, with no care for me, my kids or my dogs. This office has been the only thing bad about living here, and they have done this for 23 years.

We have been taking our fur babies here for nearly 30 years; birds, dachshunds and cats. Always been appreciative of the care and maybe not so happy with the cost. But as any pet loving owner knows, we will do anything for our best friend. Recently our 12 y.o. dachshund had paralysis in his rear legs. A scary thing for any pet loving family. We heard MRI, Neurologist, and possible surgery. We talked to the vet about alternatives and we decided to seek chiropractic care (sort of against all advice.) Within 3 visits to the chiropractor, our dog was walking! Our advice is listen to the vets opinion but don't be afraid to seek alternative medicine. We sure are glad that we did! ? ?

I moved to St Petersburg from California with Toto and I was looking for the best avian vet in Florida. And I found him!! Dr. Joel Murphy is so knowledgeable, caring, and thoughtful. During our first visit, he went over his diet and history. He gave me excellent recommendations on Toto's diet, probiotics, and herbal supplements. I don't like to travel much because I don't like leaving Toto since caring for a bird can be complicated. Luckily, Dr Murphy offers boarding for birds and I have left Toto with him during a work trip. Dr Murphys staff went above and beyond, they sent me pictures and email updates each day which calmed my nerves. And per Toto's report card, he didn't miss me while I was away . Which honestly made me very happy and made me feel secure that Toto was being treated well. Toto loves Dr. Murphy and we are so lucky to have found him!

My family exclusively brought our pets to Dr. Murphy for almost 30 years, and only stopped because none of us still live in the area. I cannot stress enough how little one review can possibly encompass almost 30 years of incredible veterinary service, but I'll do my best. When we first moved to Florida, one of our older cats' health started to rapidly go downhill, to the point that within a week or so of our move we needed to track down a vet to help her pass on. We happened to find Dr Murphy's practice and brought her in. The next day, Dr Murphy and his office sent flowers to our home after how distraught my sister and I (who were very young children back then) were about Paris.Dr Murphy saw a total of 10 dogs and 4 cats of ours since then, most of whom he treated across their full lifespan into their senior years and eventual passing. Our dogs were always safe in his or his vet techs' hands, and he always gave reliable and accurate guidance. We also always appreciated how willing he was to provide options but defer to how we wanted our pets' care handled; for example, he has holistic or alternative care options available, but it was never something we felt pressured into or something that we felt was used at the expense of traditional veterinary medicine.Personally, I also always valued how willing he was to take into consideration the realities of pet ownership on a budget; there were many options for some of our more "medically complicated" animals that he explained to us in detail but also advised would not be cost effective considering the small benefit we would see. He NEVER performed veterinary services just for the sake of billing us, and in fact on multiple occasions offered to waive the cost of diagnostic tests or treatments that did not pan out, under the logic that he shouldn't charge us for his theory being incorrect. He's not unwilling to say "We can do XYZ if you'd like, but I don't think it's going to work" or "We have ABC option, but it's only going to buy a little bit of time and it'll cost a lot of money to do it."Our pets and every single member of my family were always recognized by name and appearance by everyone in the office, and they would actively remember quirks of our pets' behavior or moods or details about our lives. My father is an avid birder and bird photographer, and has on multiple occasions been late getting home from a vet visit because he and Dr Murphy got into an extended discussion of a recent rare bird sighting or birding trip. If I had a question while picking up a medication, Dr Murphy would without fail personally call me back to check in about it the very same day, even if our pets hadn't had an appointment or if we had seen another vet at the practice. As the last member of my family to move out of the area, I would be lying if I said that the idea of having to find a new vet wasn't a strong motivator to stay local, and I am still disappointed that I couldn't make that happen. Even then, despite not even being part of the same household anymore, it was still important to me that we schedule an absolute last minute appointment literally a couple of days before I moved so that Dr Murphy could meet and evaluate my own dog, as with my family pets.Animal & Bird is the single best veterinary experience you can arrange for your pets in the state of Florida, and you cannot find another practice that compares. If you want your pet to have the best medical care they can get, this is where you take them.

We absolutely trust Dr Murphy and staff to give our bird the very best care. We feel involved in the process (who else lets you look through the microscope) and know the recommendations given are from the highest authority on avian care.

Dr. Murphy and his staff provide the calibre of care that I wish I could receive from my own 'human' medical providers! Dr. Murphy is SPECIFICALLY Avian trained--and while he offers the same level of excellence in treating all of our pet companions (for the past eight years+)---he has the specific skill set to treat birds that few other veterinarians NATIONALLY have the experience or education to provide. His office has state of the art diagnostic equipment (yes, IN HOUSE) to afford instant answers (in many cases)--and a wide range of specific botanical remedies (the basis for most pharmacology) tailored to treat individual maladies. Dr. Murphy's staff is attentive, knowledgeable and prompt. Sincere thanks to Dr. Murphy and his Team
