I strongly advise avoiding American Van Lines. Our binding estimate of $16,100 ballooned to over $30,000 on moving day, and we were threatened with losing our $8,000 deposit if we didn’t sign their inflated contract. They outsourced our move to another company without warning, packed our items carelessly, and many belongings arrived damaged or heat-warped after sitting for weeks in extreme temperatures. Communication was nearly impossible once they had our things. This was by far the most stressful and unethical moving experience I’ve ever had.

Don’t do it! Terrible experience! American van line subbed out my friends move to an independent contractor. Mover showed up on time, but we didn’t think the truck was big enough. We questioned it. We walked to the house showed them everything. Again, they said that the truck was big enough. Surprise surprise they’re 90% done and they tell us that the truck is not big enough. Many discussions with American Van lines no callbacks run around finally we just rented our own U-Haul loaded it and drove it ourselves at the cost $1500.00. American van line’s response was “you order the wrong size truck”. We didn’t order a truck, we order a move. I would have no idea what size truck to order I’m not a mover. Oh and I agree with the above review. No way they are rated at 4.2 stars. They MUST have a grey hat scrubbing all the bad reviews. High priced bad service.

Extremely Disappointing Experience — A Cautionary Tale for Prospective Customers
I feel compelled to share my experience in hopes of sparing others from the frustration, stress, and financial loss I endured. I strongly advise against booking your move with American Van Lines.
From the outset, the process was plagued by misleading estimates and inaccurate pricing. What was initially presented as a straightforward, cost-effective move quickly spiraled into a situation characterized by unjustified price escalations and a complete lack of transparency. It became increasingly clear that the initial quote was either irresponsibly optimistic or deliberately deceptive.
The on-site management of the move was chaotic and poorly executed. Communication was inconsistent, timelines were disregarded, and the crew appeared disorganized and ill-prepared. Rather than facilitating a smooth transition, the experience added considerable stress during an already challenging time.
To make matters worse, my attempts to resolve these issues with customer service were met with dismissiveness and a clear lack of professionalism. Instead of addressing my concerns with accountability and integrity, representatives threatened to withhold my belongings unless I paid them immediately. Their focus was not on resolving the situation, but rather on deflecting responsibility and extracting additional payment.
In my view, this company operates with tactics that border on coercive — employing a bait-and-switch model that feels more like legalized extortion than a professional moving service.
Do yourself a favor: avoid American Van Lines at all costs. The short-term savings they promise are not worth the long-term consequences. This was, without a doubt, one of the most regrettable service decisions I’ve ever made.

THE ACTUAL WORST. Avoid American van lines at all costs. Moves are stressful no matter what. American Van lines doubled our stress and headache. BAIT AND SWITCH estimates and complete scam on the packing methods to increase volume. So basically we were stressed the whole time, Couldn’t get thru to our rep when we needed to, and paid almost $10,000 more than the quote…and they left half of our shipment and didn’t complete it! We had to book an entire new company to finish the job.

Radu did a great job. He showed up on time and had the whole house unloaded, unwrapped, and offered to assemble everything he had to disassemble in the move. He laid down at runner front to back and was contentious about not tracking in dirt or debris from wet grass.
48 hours from pack/load to unpack with 750 miles between. I had other movers take a month to do the same! Job 477495.

We recently used American Van Lines for our move, and the experience was excellent. Our movers, Francisco and his partner (whose name I didn’t catch), were both professional, courteous, and very careful with our belongings. They handled everything with care and made sure to ask where each item should go before setting it down. The whole process was smooth and stress-free. I truly appreciate their hard work and attention to detail highly recommend American Van Lines and this crew!
