DO NOT BUILD WITH SOUTHERN STYLE HOMES AND DO NOT USE ELROD SEPTIC.We built our home with Southern Style Homes and Elrod septic did our septic drainfield. We have lived in the house (that we built) for 5 years and found out earlier this year that our septic drain field is failing. Septic drain fields, when done correctly, should last at least 20-25 years. We had issues from the beginning with the drain field. Elrod came out within the first year we lived her because of sinkholes in the front yard where the drain field is. Elrod supposedly “fixed” the issue. We have continuously been in contact with Jimmy from southern style homes over the past 5 years and he has sent out Elrod to pump the septic out (on their own dime). After the second time, Jimmy asked what our long term goal was because he wasn’t going to keep sending someone out to pump it. We also had it pumped several times on our dime, twice before contacting Jimmy and several times since. Around the same time we contacted Jimmy, my husband contacted Ron, the owner of Elrod septic, and not only was Ron incredibly rude, he stated he would not take responsibility for the drain field and fix it. He did everything to “county code” and the “county passed it”. He would fix it “at cost” which was estimated around $5,000-$6,000. This was 2 1/2 years after moving into the house. We did not have the funds to do it then and felt it should have been covered by the builder or subcontractor since drain fields are meant to last so much longer than 2 1/2 years and there were issues from the beginning that they were aware of.Since then our septic issues have gotten worse (pumping more frequently, bigger sink holes in the front yard, soaking wet front yard, etc) and we were forced to try and do something. We tried contacting Jimmy on several other occasions to try to come up with a solution but he would no longer answer our calls. We ended up hiring an attorney in August 2023 to try and get them to fix the drain field. We paid an attorney his retainer fee and the attorney sent a Chapter 558 notice, which essentially is a letter claiming construction defects that has to be sent to the contractor before you can go ahead with any other legal action. The letter did nothing. After receiving the 558 notice, Southern style homes was required to send documents, which they didn’t send. They were required to send the notice to the subcontractor (Elrod) which we do not believe they did as we have not heard anything. We had to pay the attorney to send this 558 notice and now the attorney says we would have to sue them to get any resolution . The attorney advised us that taking them to court could end up costing us just as much (if not more) as fixing the drain field and there is no guarantee we will win.Southern style homes obviously has more financial means to deal with a lawsuit and do not care about a young family who do not have the means to carry out a lengthy lawsuit. We know of at least three other instance where other people are having septic drain field issues and Elrod septic was responsible. Two of them are posted on BBB. The other is a personal family friend. The attorney advised us that we cannot sue the subcontractor, Elrod, only the contract Southern Style Homes. So here we are.Yes, I know we were naive first-time home owners, now knowing what we know we should have fought harder to get a resolution in the first year. Don’t make our same mistake. We have given them many opportunities and to make it right and nothing has worked. Please spread the word. Southern style homes and Elrod Septic are not trust worthy and I would never recommend them to anyone. Beware and use other more reliable companies!

I called 8 different septic companies to get estimates for a new septic tank and drain field. Elrod Septic not only responded in a timely manner but gave a very competitive price and was very professional. They replaced my system and put in the new system. Everything worked great and I have no complaints. Everything passed inspection. The whole process was a stress-free as it could be. I would recommend them.

Being somewhat new to Port Charlotte I had no idea I was going to get the letter. If you have been here awhile you know about the letter. The letter is from the Health Department informing you have to have the septic tank pumped out. So I called Elrod's. Kim was great, very patient and polite. She answered all my questions and provided further assistance by looking for old permits. When I bought the house it was listed with the septic tank being new. But I didn't know if the placement was changed when someone put the new tank in. She contacted the right people, and found all the answers to the questions we had. They then scheduled the appointment for a day or two after I called. Cody came out to pump the tank and answered all my questions since we never had a tank pumped. He was very nice and before you know it my tank was done and the form for the Health Department was filled out. Unless there is a problem I said I will see them in 5 years when the next letter comes. It's great when you hire a company and they do what they say they will, I'll be back and recommend them anytime to do a great job.

I had a unique concern regarding our need for a new septic system, and Elrod (DJ) was the only company that came up with the perfect solution for us. From Kimberly in the office, to the installation team (Shane, Jeff & Darren), I couldn't be more pleased with everyone's help, experience, and performance. This is a local company with a wonderful family feel who shows care and integrity. Thanks again!Services: Septic system installation

I could not be more disappointed with the quality of work. I followed the directions for preparation of my lot to the letter. When they arrived to do the work all of a sudden it was necessary to do more prep work. Not small items rather taking down half of the back porch and removing additional fencing. I refused and for the next 3 days was punished with poor workmanship and nasty attitudes. I knew they would not seed or sod the area but I didn’t expect they would leave the elevation with cliffs not tapered to the lawn and 5 inches of excess sand scattered around a large part of the front yard. It cost me $3800 after they left to put the yard back together. That is on top of the $1000 to prepare the property and a $16,000 bill for the job. I do not recommend you call them —- there have to be better options.Service: Septic system installation
