Terrible place. If you bring a lost pet here that doesn't have a chip, they make you sign a form essentially saying they're going to put the animal down if it's a dog. If it's a cat, they're going to spay or neuter it, then release the animal to continue wreaking havoc on the native species and eco systems. The waste of space of a person known as the police officer that guards the blue door will threaten you with a crime and arrest if you don't have the time to wait their multiple hours. The waiting isn't anywhere comfortable, either. It's outside in the sun with no easy access to bathrooms. This place is one that gives all shelters a bad name. I encourage everyone to go elsewhere. Take animals to rescues and shelters that actually care for them. The humane society in Tampa is a great alternative.

They need to update hours of operation my husband and I were very keen on coming in to check out some dogs and yet only one car is in the parking lot at 5:15 pm when they supposadly close at 7 pm which was confusing if they are at full capacity closing early instead of giving adoption opportunity would not be in their best interest. Please change hours of operation so I don't waste gas.

I am very disappointed by the customer service I received February 23 2023. I was disrespected and screamed at for bringing 2 stray dogs. I was told that the facility was at full capacity, and when I stepped outside, I found one of the workers taking a picture of my license plate. When I asked the reasoning I was disrespected again by the guy and I wasn’t given a proper explanation. I could not reason with the people working in the front and they had no type of compassion. It looked like they hated their jobs and they had no customer service. I am DISAPPOINTED in the super visor for not speaking to his group after I reported the incident. DO BETTER PASCO ANIMAL CENTER!!!!! Traumatizing experience

Amazing staff. They love and care for all of the creatures there. I can't wait to foster with them more. They are a wonderful place that does put the animals need sforat.

I adopted a dog It didn't work out in the end but the staff was extremely nice and they seem to be able to get me to a dog that seemed to be a perfect match. I had a good experience overall. I highly recommend this place.

This is a nice county animal shelter. I am a huge animal rescue fan. I rescued my dog from a high kill shelter in Los Angeles. I rescued my cats from the HCPRC. Right now, they limit how many people can enter the facility. If you are looking for a pet, it's better to make an appointment rather than just show up, or you might be hanging out in the central Florida weather until it's your turn to enter. Making an appointment ahead of time also helps you figure out if the animal that you're interested in is a boarder or foster, because the fosters are not on site, so you need to coordinate with the foster parent for a viewing. I found that the facilities are clean, and they take reasonable care of their animals despite over crowding and budget issues. I like that there is a foster program to help with overcrowding. They have a huge number of pitbulls here that are long-term residents. They have a program to include some dog training classes for people who adopt these pits to encourage people to feel more confident adopting these smart dogs that have horrible reputations. Yes, they do euthanize here. The sad truth is that not every animal is going to be adoptable. Also, the "no kill" shelters often transfer their unadoptable animals to the high kill shelters, so take a shelter's claims with a grain of salt. The way to reduce these issues at county shelters is to work to encourage people to spay and neuter their pets and discourage backyard breeders and pet stores that buy from puppy mills.

The staff here is amazing. They are so helpful will stay with you while you see all the pets you need. I met a wonderful little big guy who will hopefully be coming home with us tomorrow. He is timid and likes to play a little. The staff was able to give suggestions on which type of dog would have a good temperament with my current dog in my home and the steps to get them acquainted. The whole process is pretty simple it's just all about finding your perfect match.

Very compassionate and understanding staff. They do the best they can with limited resources. All the cats I saw were well cared for and I especially loved how the vet tech popped in during our meet and greet to tell us more about the cat we were visiting. I like that appointments are required- keeps it less hectic for both the cats and the people! Very happy with our adoption here.

Tried to see dogs to adopt but was turned away because they don't show dogs anymore they said. Have to pick them out online first and then they'll let u see them. Who has time for all that? Well I tried to adopt and help a dog out but y'all don't seem to want to actually save dogs. Sad part was they would have let me in if I was making a money donation. Oh well looks like I'll buy a dog from the guy selling them in the Walmart parking lot.

I gave 5 stars because even though they do have to put some animals down, they give every chance they can. Our Reggie a black lab was there for 5 years with the last year having 7 different adopters/fosters. Each one saying that he was aggressive. They didn't give up on him. Reggie had a few issues, but most due to being in a shelter. Senior dogs don't do well in shelters. He was scared and confused most of the time. He has been with us for 2 years now and we have had no issues. Most of the behavior was worked out as we know how to work with large dogs. PRC goes way above what most would have done. Well done volunteers, keep up the good work you do.

When I think of a county animal shelter the images that appear in my mind are of a cold, dreadful concrete jail. I really commend Hillsborough County for going out of their way to make sure that their shelter does not appear that way. The outside of the building is covered in green, blue, and orange stripes. There are fun looking animal sculptures scattered around. They've also designed the exterior with functionality in mind also. There is an awning that extends outward from the intake door, which would be so helpful during rain. They have "curbside cuddles" parking spots where they'll bring the animal you're picking up to you. The inside is even more colorful and the lobby is full of animals looking for good homes. Adopt don't shop! It's beyond painful to try and call them with questions. I sat on hold for over 20 minutes more than once. Every 40 seconds they'll replay the same informative message again so by the time someone picks up you've heard it dozens of times. I definitely recommend emailing them instead when possible because they do answer that quickly. This is one of the scenarios where I wish that Yelp let us give half Stars. The experience here definitely wasn't perfect, but I'm rounding up to five stars. All of the people that I dealt with were so kind and helpful. I was able to adopt a new furry friend and paid significantly less money for the shots and procedures performed than I would have at a private veterinarian.
