My husband and I have been looking for a memory care facility for my father-in-law and Truewood Venice made the top of our list after our encounter with the staff and tour of the facility. All of the staff were welcoming and friendly. The place was also very clean and tidy. We were advised by a family member that no place will be perfect but to choose the place where the people who live there seem happiest. Of course, the residents in memory care suffer from some form of dementia but the staff give them purpose and allow them to be as independent as possible, and because of this their contentment and happiness show. The general manager, Z and Staci, our coordinator took a lot of time with us not just talking about the facility but also showing genuine care for us and my father-in-law. We were given a lot of helpful advice and we appreciated how experienced and knowledgeable they were. It was also apparent they care about the residents. We were pleased to know a lot of the staff have been with them for many years so they can build relationships with the residents. We are truly thankful for all the help and care we received from both Z and Staci. We don’t know what the future holds for my father-in-law but we hope he gets to spend the last of his days in Truewood Venice.

About a year ago we started looking for an assisted/independent living facility for my mom, who was starting to need more help with daily activities. We did a lot of research online and then visited several options within about 30 miles. Some of the places were very depressing and were immediately crossed off the list. Many of them seemed very “institutional” with long, long hallways that made for quite a walk from the resident’s room to the shared living areas. Most of them had very large dining rooms that reminded me of school cafeterias where meals were served to a hundred or more people at a time.We were starting to get discouraged when someone suggested that we check out Truewood by Merrill in Venice. We scheduled an appointment with Chetta Cometa, the Community Relations Director, and went for a visit. The difference between Truewood and the facilities we had seen previously was striking. At Truewood the atmosphere was upbeat and friendly. The decor was homelike and cozy. The rooms were grouped into neighborhoods of 12 rooms each and each neighborhood had its own living room, kitchen and dining room. They had a lot of daily activities posted such as shopping trips, crafts, etc. The staff was friendly and the residents seemed happy and engaged. We had found a place for Mom!It has now been almost a year since Mom moved into Truewood in Venice and she is very happy, which means her family is also very happy! She has made many friends and is always busy with the activities. She loves the “neighborhood” concept. Eating her meals in the dining room with her neighbors is something she especially enjoys and she has gotten to know them all quite well. She also tells me that the food is excellent. My sister is the administrator of an assisted living facility up north so she is very familiar with the day to day workings of a senior living community. When she came down to visit she said that she was very impressed with Truewood. As the daughter of a Truewood resident she can see how happy Mom is. As a professional in the field of senior living she can see how well the facility is run.For years I had been dreading the time when we would need to find a place for Mom. When we found Truewood by Merrill in Venice we hit the jackpot. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for senior living.

Recently my husband and I visited Truewood in Venice for a tour with their director Chetta, a very caring and empathic person. My mother-in-law currently lives in New Jersey so we are evaluating the possibility of moving her to Florida. Chetta listened carefully to understand our family dynamics, and spent a few hours making suggestions as to how we could proceed. Chetta also gave us a thorough tour of this facility which has a unique and homey layout. Chetta and her staff truly care about their residents, and all are focused on making their comfort and happiness a priority.

Our mom moved into the Venice community a week ago today, and the level of care, staff attitude and resident contentedness is phenomenal. We moved mom from a lesser facility in town, and the newer neighborhood concept and smaller groups of people have helped our 98 year old mom feel like part of the community quickly. She will need a few more weeks before we have a good rhythm, but all initial signs are extremely positive. From the leadership to every level of caretaker, the focus on caring and personal respect is palpable. Thank goodness we found this facility, and while this is a very difficult decision, all the staff and the procedures at Truewood in Venice made it an easy choice.

During such a difficult time of quarantine I have the greatest respect for the management and staff whose spirit and care shines through daily. Their dedication and commitment to keeping everyone safe, healthy and happy are amazing. The building, common area and residences are kept spotless and extremely clean. The only suggestion would be to have a daily variety of fresh fruits and vegetables for both enjoyment and nutrition.
