Beer, gas and cigarettes seems to be the most popular items here, I'll try to keep this review tactful and respectful but it ain't gonna be easy. After all this little lakeside community deserves much more than this little convenience store is offering up. Situated on the edge of the forest this self proclaimed "golf cart" community doesn't have a lot of options, it's quite the drive in any direction to find a competitive option. I pulled in here out of necessity, my truck's fuel light was illuminated and I wasn't about to chance running out of fuel in these piney woods. I pulled in just as sun was setting, the fuel island was dimly lit there was a 1970s something Ford pickup with a camper on the right side of the island and a almost windowless white van pulling a trailer full of scrape bed frames and tin parked at a 45 degrees to the pump blocking in a rusted out Smoky and the Bandit TransAm with a missing headlight and there wasn't a soul in sight - I had absolutely no choice but to wait it out. The broken concrete drive matched perfectly with the rundown building housing this old Kangaroo Express which showed some signs that this location too was taken over by Circle K or was it Mobil, there were signs that this place has changed hands a few times and it was clear there's been no renovations here in decades - it's ugly. The owner of the Ford finally showed up and pumped $5.00 worth of regular but not before setting his 12 pack of KeyStone Light in the cab. I pulled up as he pulled out just in time for the owners of the white van to stare me down like I was a fricking alien while drinking his can of beer and keeping his non-filtered Lucky Strike lit on his stained lips he was followed closely by Daisy Duke with her 12 pack of Busch Light - I'm thinking they are selling gas and giving away beer here and I didn't get the memo. I chose my credit card with the best fraud protection and reluctantly slid it in the slot and entered my zip code to start the pump - I decided not to enter the business to get my receipt - now don't get me wrong this is a much needed business and it seems to be a popular stop here in Welaka and the staff may be the most awesome ever but I'll let others confirm that - I got what I needed and made my exit before I encountered any of the local wildlife or maybe zombies...
