February 2024 by A book t.
I went back today to speak to general manager CARLENE RANGER about my concerns after she requested a meeting with me, and instead of listening to her PAYING customers, she shifted blamed on me, made no effort to try to speak to her employees about their behavior, and overall did not give a single rat's ass about my concerns. And of course, I'm not the only one to receive this treatment. Retro Fitness Wellington is a shitshow for a gym. Worst gym culture I've ever seen and worst group of employees I've ever seen in a gym. Carlene Ranger is an even shittier manager and it's a surprise that she made it this far in life with two brain cells and not a single thought in that nearly empty shell where her troglodyte shrunken brain resides. Good day.

Retro fitness in Wellington collects a $50 maintenance fee from every member one month after joining yet doesn't maintain the equipment.

Gym is relatively new and equipment is nice if you can get on it. Gym is small and very over crowded with kids and every wannabe social media influencer under 21. Weights are never put back, tri pods for filming and shirtless posing all over the floor is what you will get here. Former GM John was great, new GM has ZERO customer service talent what so ever. if you are young and like going to the gym for social gatherings and building your instagram profile while not actually lifting weight; Retro is your place. If you truly want to seriously train for goals, health or competition; this is not the gym for you!

The manager, Ed should be ashamed of himself. Almost a year ago, I cancelled my membership as I lost everything during covid and could barely afford groceries. He said he felt bad and of course would cancel it. Well, of course he didn't and charged me over a thousand dollars for training that I did not use. When I tried to reach Ed to let him know that there was a mistake, I couldn't. I talked to another member of management (which I could name but is a good dude that I don't want to get any kind of backlash from this review) that said he went back to Ed to see what was the issue. He informed me that Ed said it was a mistake and to dispute the charge and that he wouldn't fight it...Well, yesterday, the day after Christmas, that I barely made work for my kids, I received a "Revoke" notice from my bank that after a long investigation that Retro refused my claim. So my bank had no choice but to give the money back to Retro the day after Christmas.I just want to give a little more details just to drive the point home. I called tin late March to cancel and I was told, "okay no problem". but then I got a monthly maintenance fees. So then I was told to write a letter which I immediately did in late April . Conveniently, My member ship renewed in early April so now they are using that I cancelled after the membership due date... I do take responsibility for believing people in what they say instead of going back to the contract to see the language for canceling. I just believed Ed and for that, I am paying the price.Side note: I spoke to a former member or the club management that was informed by Ed in private he had no intention of refunding the money as he was financially having a difficult time with the club. I've found out that the club allegedly has gone back to corporate ownership...And I agree with Kayla S. in the review section. They make it almost impossible to cancel. I was told by my trainer to go to management only to tell me months after the fact that they break membership cancelation canceling into two departments which are Training and Memberships and really blur the line as to where to go.So shame on you Ed an Retro fitness for caring about the almighty dollar and not their customers.

Clean gym. BUT you won't catch a sweat here anytime in the morning. A/C is freezing cold all the time and the fans are full blast so you'll stay away from main areas you probably want to use. I have videos of the paper towels blowing its so cold and windy. The staff AND members are all in long sleeves or hoodies.Management never addresses this issue

I am so happy with Retro Fitness Wellington. I have been a member since the gym opened and I truly love working out there. The environment is not like a typical gym. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. John, the general manager, is so kind and helps to keep the gym in great shape. He always tries to connect with the members and create a family environment there. I highly recommend this gym.

I joined in August and couldn’t be happier with my overall experience so far. All the staff is amazing, John, Skylar and member base is top notch as well. I belong to a few gyms because I hadn’t found one I felt at home with until Retro. Will be the only gym I go to from now on.

This gym is nice and new but it is run like a high school gym. The owner Ed does not come around anymore so his staff have let it go. Kids are vaping and people are wearing sandals or no shoes at all. I complained a few times and never got an answer. The desk manager and his old front desk agent with neck tattoos didn’t like hearing me point out stuff anymore and falsely accused me of things without proof. They are of Hispanic origin and I don’t think they like white people! do not go here !

Great gym yes, but is it possible to add another leg extension or maybe add another one with more weight?

It's a nice clean gym. Awesome Zumba instructor. Thank you JOHN for always listening to our concerns and following up.You add the human touch, when my brother passed and I was away for a while you noticed and you cared enough to ask if I was OK. Enjoy working out at Retro.
