“My father has a beautiful ornithological print of a King Fisher that was the inspiration for the two of us to seek out and collect nice ornithological (bird) prints from various artists. We have around 25 between the two of us now.

I'm 44, and after all these years I never knew that my dad bought the King Fisher in his honeymoon with my mom. Mom's been gone since losing her battle with pancreatic cancer in 2017. So anything that can connect her spirit to the relationship my father and I have rebuilt over the recent years is a blessing.

In late 2017 and early 2018 Albany suffered a tornado outbreak followed by Hurricane Michael. Both of these storms hit my dad's house almost directly. As a result the King Fisher got a bit of water damage and the original frame became a little loose in the corners.

Last year for his birthday I took the print to Woods Gallery and had it cleaned up, re-matted and repaired. Unfortunately, there wasn't a way to remove ALL traces of the water damage because Albany doesn't have any museum style conservators. BUT, I should say that it was entirely worth the money and time! The frame is tight and sturdy like new, the slight change in mat color works so well with the King Fisher's plumage and the discoloration from moisture is almost unnoticeable unless you're up close.

Please support such local businesses like Woods Gallery. Yes he may cost a little more for services, but you're getting decades of experience and expertise while keeping your money circulating in our city. Which is SO much better than paying half the price for some college student to give you a basic frame up at a big box craft store (there's two in town) and your money gets whisked away to a giant corporation who pays that guy or gal in the framing section less than a living wage.”
