Delightfully curated bookshop just off of downtown Athens. Lots of representation of female authors and a wide variety of viewpoints. A lovely space and very kind and helpful staff make for a wonderful place to visit

Very strange experience. First, the store employee (name removed due to request from owner Janet Geddis) was unfriendly when we entered the bookstore. Second, we returned for bags for our books, which was not offered during check-out. While in store, he was closely following us around and finally asked us to leave, as they were only open, so a guy can propose. That customer may have paid for that proposal at the bookstore, but we were also there to spend money. Apparently, the owner knew it too. Surely, there’s a better way for that kind of experience without kicking out customers.Curiously, this is our 2nd experience at an independent bookstore where a white employee treated us differently while there were other customers in the store. It’s a shame that this kind of preferential approach still occurs in 2023. Not surprised to find that most (white) customers here are treated the preferential way and we are glad to see non-white customers who had good experiences. Enter cautiously if you’re non-white. We don’t plan to return.Update: The employee was silent during the interactions at check out. He neither offered a bag nor asked whether we would like a receipt at the time of check-out. We can see why an employee wouldn’t be entirely honest when an owner places complete trust that they wouldn’t make errors. It’s entirely human to make mistakes. We appreciate the amends on part of the owner, and we hope it’s a learning experience for the employee, Luis, and the owner Janet and we wish them the best!

I love this bookstore. I have been in so many times to ask for recommendations for me or my children and every suggestion has been a perfect match. Also fun just to walk in and browse. Such friendly, helpful staff. Love it.

I love Avid bookshop! I occasionally order online from them, and when I'm in the area I am always sure to visit in person. It's such a cute and charming store. They have a wide selection of books and their booksellers are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They also have some great gift subscriptions--I got one for my in-laws and they loved it. I love a local business that offers great service and a unique, welcoming vibe. Hmmm...maybe I should move to Athens?!

Even to someone who overly adores bookstores, Avid Bookshop is a standout. It's a pleasant and welcoming place to browse its curated and diverse fare: bestsellers, local books, special interests, and more. The staff is knowledgeable and kind and happy to assist you with preorders, special orders, or finding just what you need. Avid has the BEST GIFTS: wonderful treasures you'll want to buy for yourself. As an Athens author myself, I'm grateful for their support of authors and engagement with Athens schools and the community with events like book clubs, book fairs, and author readings. Best bookstore in town, hands down. Do yourself a favor and stop by soon.

I love shopping here! While the actual shop is fairly small, they've always had whatever book I've been after, mostly in the store but have ordered for me if they didn't! Overall, a lovely local business that I feel is a staple of the Athens community :)

Avid is a wonderful bookshop, staffed by engaging and knowledgeable bibliophiles who always have excellent recommendations and are quick to respond to requests. They pivoted quickly to a business model that was safe for staff and customers during the pandemic, and I can’t express how much it meant to see someone waving from the window as I collected a book order outside. Avid supports the local community and local writers, and the Five Points shop is a small village of book lovers. What more could one ask?

Avid is a local gem. We've been patrons since we moved to town several years ago. A fantastic independent bookstore, with the coolest staff, amazing events, and the most phenomenal collection of books and gifts. We love you, Avid!

Great local bookstore with a good indie selection. Also has little stationary selection and all sorts of paper goods.

Great Bookstore with awesome curation/book recommendations! Only thing I dislike is the limited hours of operation but I that can't really be helped. Hope they stick around!
