I switched to Georgia United because their customer service was better. That is no longer the case.In the last few years they have shut down their branch in five points and gotten rid of tellers at the Gaines school rd branch. I’ll start looking for a different bank to deal with: a bank that values customer service. GUCU does not care about the their loyal customers in Athens.

My wife went in to deposit money in my account. There was a problem doing this with their new kiosks. A rep came to help and asked for my account number and info all the while other people including some screaming lady who had mental issues were just standing around within earshot AND SMARTPHONE of hearing all my personal information. My wife told the rep that she was not comfortable blurting out my personal bank info right there in the lobby in front of strangers and asked to do this in an office. The rep seemed perplexed by this and thought it was no big deal to just stand in the middle of a busy lobby rambling off someone’s personal bank information. I have been in this lobby once since it changed over from real people to machines and it is a mess. I don’t feel secure at all doing my banking in here now and plan to close my account just based on the sheer stupidity taking a tried and true system that works and turning into the unsafe mess that it is now. The employees even seem distraught as I have seen and as others we have spoken with who use this bank. I feel bad for them. It was a friendly, human experience before this awful change. We knew all the tellers names as well as the other staff, now what is it? It’s cold, sterile, confusing and most important unsecured. Technology has its limitations and there are people out there who will take advantage of it. A bank is the last place you want to fiddle around with some eggheads inexperienced idea of a better way of doing things.2/12/2024My response to the GUCU robot response below. A valid security concern at a bank goes far beyond a mere “inconvenience”. I find stating it that way just goes to show the shallow level of concern this matter is with GUCU.3/2/2024As an updated response to the response below, NO, not a single human being from GUCU has bothered to contact me. Your robot generated response means absolutely nothing. It is only here to show viewers that you are on top of things and care. I just want potential viewers, GUCU customers and people thinking of becoming customers to know this. Again, as of this date the bank never reached out to me regarding this issue, and they never will. If they do I will update this review most likely as I circle Athens Georgia on a FLYING PIG.

Terrible customer service. They held checks for weeks at a time and lost $300+ in the process. Trying to get ahold of GUCU on the phone is next to impossible, I had to call the line 10 times before I could figure out the correct codes to be allowed to talk to someone. Tellers are oddly rude and consistently unprofessional. I had hoped they would be a reliable credit union but I will be leaving this following week. Join at your own risk.

The new set up with virtual tellers sucks. I have been with them for years but I’m thinking about switching to another bank with human customer service and drive through tellers. Human customer service matters and we don’t want to deal with this.

Do you want a human teller to handle your deposits? No more indoor or drive through teller's. I was shocked when i saw the huge change. Find another finance company if want a teller and not a machine to do the job. It used to be great, now they are not good. The world has to come to technology running everything. I would rather a real person over a ATM machine to do my transaction.
