March 16-17 of 2023 (33 days before tax deadline): I uploaded my tax documents to the H&R Block website. Had an appointment to discuss initial questions and other needed information the next day.
Weeks passed and never heard from the tax preparer despite sending emails and calling one week before tax day.
April 18th, 2023 (tax deadline day): Preparer calls me (approximately an 8 minute phone call) and apologizes for not getting back to me. He then tells me he is finished with my taxes. I asked him what the next step is. He told me to give him my bank information to pay the owed taxes and he would get them filed for me.
I found out a few weeks later my taxes were NEVER filed and found out this office was closed. I contacted another office that managed this office’s phone calls when they are closed. They told me to pay the taxes owed, they would make sure the taxes were filed, and HR Block would pay for any penalties. I paid the taxes owed and never heard from the state or federal so I thought everything was ok.
I then found out in late December 2023 that my taxes still were NOT FILED. I went back to this office when they reopened in January 2024. After several attempts, finally got my taxes filed and accepted in late February 2024.
Now the feds and state are after me for penalties. H&R Block said they will pay but ONLY the fees due as of our last conversation. This means I MUST pay the state and federal government (total $1700+) IMMEDIATELY to avoid additional fees and WAIT for them to reimburse me. I must take money from my savings account where I am earning approx. 5.00% and the agent cannot guarantee I will get any interest payment to make up for my loss. In addition to this all:
1. IF my taxes were filed on time, I would have gotten a refund for an overpayment. I have not gotten confirmation yet if am going to get that overpayment amount back. Also, that money would have been in my savings account. Therefore, that is loss of interest.
2. I learned last year the state of Georgia gave a $250 rebate for anyone filing taxes in 2023. I never got my rebate because they NEVER FILED MY TAXES in 2023 even though I paid the taxes due in 2023. I was told I must fight that out with the state of Georgia on my own. Again, more interest loss.

Patrick Wilson did my return, he inputed WIRE transfer number as my ACCOUNT number. States he doesn't make that mistake. Found out about this mistake by a returned payment FEE from GA department of Revenue. I did call him back to have this issue fixed a couple times and he did call me back, but every time I spoke with him about my concern he wouldn't LISTEN and basically wish me luck to figuring it out myself by maybe calling the bank to fix the mistake. I am now on my own to fix this domino effect issue he has caused and would not own up too it. Everyone makes mistakes but he will not even try to help with his mistake (because he is with another client) and is sadly unknowledgeable about his profession. Im currently on Day 2 of trying to fix his mistake: hours on different calls for that one mistake that he has made. I do not wish this on anyone with the mistake he has made. Upside: at least it's not a wrong account number transfer. In response to the owner: support team has been called, thanks to a different HR block location down the road that decided to help me when they didn't have too. I shouldn't have to worry about information put in correctly as it is part of the job by the professional, is it not? It should not be my expectation but as a HR block professional expectation.

Easy to make appointment; no waiting when I arrived; Trudie McGovern is professional, experienced and easy to work with. I received an e-mail soon thereafter that my federal return had been accepted; nice refund. Deserves a good score!
