This is written on behalf of my fiancée.
I am writing to formally report an incident of unprofessional behavior and what I believe to be racial profiling that occurred during a recent visit to one of your Synovus Bank branches.
On May 19 at approximately 2:30PM, I visited the branch to withdraw $2,000 from my account. The transaction initially proceeded without issue, but the teller—surprised by the withdrawal amount—asked me to return with my ID. Upon returning approximately 10 minutes later, I was met with an alarming and invasive line of questioning.
The teller began asking personal questions unrelated to the transaction, including where I live, who deposits money into my account, and how my account was opened. When I inquired about the nature of these questions, I was told to “hold tight.” I then went inside the branch with my family, where I observed the same female teller and a male teller whispering and mumbling to each other. The female teller appeared to abruptly hang up a phone call when she noticed us approaching.
Once at the counter, I was informed that the branch network was down and that my listed address raised concerns due to my account being new. They stated that they would need to conduct additional verification and contact the representative who originally opened my account.
What struck me as particularly troubling was that the male teller mentioned that account verification is not typically done through the drive-thru, which directly contradicted the actions of the female teller, who had been pressing me for personal information earlier during the drive-thru interaction.
Ultimately, I was able to receive my funds only after my fiancée intervened and explained my employment details and the number of bank accounts I manage. This entire encounter was deeply uncomfortable, unnecessary, and felt heavily motivated by bias and assumptions.
I have chosen to close my account with Synovus Bank immediately and will be escalating this issue to corporate and, if necessary, additional regulatory bodies. No customer should be subjected to such intrusive questioning and inconsistent treatment—especially when it appears to be driven by racial or socioeconomic profiling.

HORRIBLE customer service. The rudest teller I have EVER spoken to. Didn't want to be there and legitimately told me she didn't want to help.

What a great bunch of ladies! The staff are very quick and friendly, and went out of their way to help me add my wife to my account.
