If you love animals, consider volunteering at the shelter through Lifeline Animal Project. It’s usually very busy, but that’s because it’s overcrowded and they do everything they can to avoid euthanizing the animals.
Or, if you have a little free time and can’t commit long term, consider taking a dog for a run or to the park through their “Dog for a Day” program. You don’t have to be a registered volunteer to do that. They have over 400 dogs, and it’s impossible for the staff to walk all of them every day. The kitties need love too!

Okay so I have a question, I have a cat named Chitlin (Don't mind the name) and my grandmother doesn't want her around anymore because she keeps coming on her back porch and just stays there. She's threatened to shoot them before and I really don't want that to happen but I'm not sure of if getting a stray cat removed from your yard is free or not, I had currently did my research with my friend early and it said it was free but when I told my grandmother she had responded by saying that they will pay her even if it's not her cat. If the animal is on her yard then they'll make her pay because they'll think it's her pet which didn't make much sense to me at all or my friend who said that she wasn't thinking logically.
But from the reviews I heard from this site I think Chitlin might be in good hands of the service if free, any feedback is greatly appreciated thank you!.

Adopted a dog from these people November 2019. But I didn't know at the time of adoption is that he was born with hip dysplasia. He was only a year old then. Apparently they didn't know he had it they didn't check when he had to limp when I bought him home and they said the reason he was limping was due to being neutered and chipped.
I found a place to pay for the surgery but they didn't think it was good to get it at the time because he was only a puppy. So I waited and 3 years later I contacted them again about the surgery because the place that was going to pay for it was still around they said since he had no problems with it I shouldn't bother with it either.
Well now it's bothering him I would have never adopted a dog that I know he was here. I can't get any insurance for him because it's a pre-existing condition I don't have the money to pay for the surgery the place that was around is no longer around.
he's a happy healthy dog best dog I ever had I've had him for 5 years now. And he's changed so much since this has been bothering him. The pictures I've given you'll notice in the beginning he sits down normally and he's happy and smiling outside and then get to the last picture. At that point he sitting with his legs off to the side he's not smiling and happy and he's not even outside like he likes to be because he can't go up and down the stairs.
I'm going for a walk he'll stop and just lay down you can't sit down he has to lay down
I've done everything in my power to help him with this situation. First he weighs approx 120 lbs. He weighed 30 lb when I adopted him. Giving him special food turmeric Omega-3 glucosamine MSM and Chrondroitin every day and massaging his hips and legs several times a week.
I cannot get any insurance to help me because it's a pre-existing condition no insurance company will cover that. I gave him an ibuprofen one night just so he stopped crying and get some rest but I made him throw up.
Imagine watching your dog lay there in pain crying there's nothing you can do and there's no light at the end of the tunnel for him.
That's what lifeline did to us so be very careful if you adopt a dog from them. not to mention the poor thing being so depressed that's making him get sick on top of that ear infections just plain old said it hurts my heart so much to see this I can't believe they would do something like this to an animal turn their backs on us.
5 YEARS AGO:
I got the sweetest dog from here. Karter. She was healthy, friendly and well behaved. I love her to death. I was a little apprehensive at first because she resembled a pit bull But I could not have made a better choice. They even have a wash station where u can bathe your dog before you take it home. The staff and volunteers were helpful, patient and knowledgeable of all my questions. TWO THUMBS UP! Britney

I always adopted dogs from the shelter because they came with a clean bill of health. but not this one.
the day l bought him home he was limping and they told me that it was probably from the dog bites he had on them when he got admitted a few days before
couple weeks later I called to bring him to the vet for the limping and they didn't have anything for 3 weeks so I was out of my 30-day window of getting any vet care for him.
I found a place online that paid for the vet care for rescue animals called Jim Parker. can you believe DeKalb county would not even pay for the x-rays to go look at him to see why he was limping they put that responsibility on me. they were supposed to do that before they adopted him out
activate confirmed hip dysplasia and we decided not to get the surgery cuz he was only a year old. call back a couple of years later for the surgery the Jim Parker friend was still around and the vet said I probably shouldn't get the surgery on him if it's not bothering him because it wasnt.
taking care of 120 lb dog with hip dysplasia as high maintenance. it's also expensive.
DeKalb county has the resources to help him I don't have the money or a vet. I CANT GET PET INS. because it's a pre-existing condition;!!
I was told my dog can live to be at least 12 or 13 years old. he's only six right now and all the work I put in him all these years massaging him giving him the vitamin supplements the anti-inflammatories taking him out on four short walks a day instead of two long walks because of the hip dysplasia .
I I put pads down on the bed in the patio for him to go to the bathroom but he just won't go to the bathroom up in the house I had to call the fire department to bring him downstairs one day so I can go to the bathroom cuz he hadn't gone in a whole day he sits there crying he can't play and run he's 6 years old
then I'm scared they're going to get him on the operating table and give him a hot shot and tell me he died during surgery can you imagine what it feels like to just sit around and pain all day and you can't do anything but just sit there and endure the pain that's pure torture he's eating so he's staying alive but he's in pain who wants to live like that
you know they should have seen some of the responsibility they said they don't help dogs when they've been adopted up for so long but they also don't adopt a dogs that have a lifelong ailment like hip dysplasia.
what makes it worse is because he cannot exercise he's gaining weight and the extra weight is even worse on his hips than anything my dogs are going like this for the past two months they won't call me back or do anything to help so be very careful about being a dog from DeKalb county because if you get a dog that's sick like this you're going to be in for a lot of heartache

Obvious how much effort these folks put into trying to help with an impossible and sad situation, all because human beings are irresponsible and truthfully undeserving of pets.
Adopted Sidney (the Rottie). It takes a lot of dedication and resilience to run this place and work here.
Thank you for all ya'll do for these poor souls. Thank you for giving Sidney a place to safely land until we found her.

A great facility doing an amazing job. The animals are well taken care of but they always need volunteers. So glad to have them in Chamblee.

Thank you to the angels who helped me and the stray cat I was finally able to trap and bring in for help today, who I had begun calling Ruth. Ruth had been roaming the neighborhood for months with a severe open head injury. Dekalb Animal Control recommended a trap to me, which I put out every day until I finally caught her after months of trying. Although Ruth's injuries were so severe that the right decision was for her to be euthanized, I am so grateful she is out of pain and safe. Thank you to the very kind, special employees at the Chamblee location who offered their sincere condolences and a warm hug when I was there. I am so thankful for all you do.

I don’t usually leave reviews but I was very impressed. My dog got lost and taken to animal control and he bit them while there. He had to stay 10 days but they took great care of him and didn’t complain about my daily nagging. They didn’t even charge me anything. Super nice people much nicer than Gwinnett thank you guys for what you do.

LifeLine's DeKalb County Animal Services (DCAS) has hard-working and devoted staff, volunteers, & fosters. It's an absolute labor of love. DCAS is a wonderful place to meet your new furry best friend. The animals here are so deserving of loving forever homes. We have been fostering for DCAS & the other LifeLine shelters since early 2018. Please adopt, foster, volunteer, and/or donate! ??

I highly recommend the Foster to Family program at Lifeline Animal Project. I found my dog at DeKalb County Animal Shelter. I was able to foster her for two weeks and we had that time to get to know one another and make sure we were a good fit. She quickly showed me me what a sweet smart girl she is and I have adopted her.

I had the best experience with this shelter during National Adoption Week. Rose, Tam, and the whole staff I met were all very nice and took their time with helping me find the right dog.

I stopped by just to look at the dogs but I didn’t expect to fall in love with one of the dogs there (Solaria) she is so sweet and gentle, it started off as a adoption but I felt like fostering would be a better option so that I could foster another dog in the future.I didn’t get the name of the person that helped me out that day but she gave me very good notes on what I should do and not do to make the transition smooth and easy for both of us and it has helped a lot.oh and also if you do decide to take home dog please listen when they tell you to let them decompress and please avoid dog parks in the beginning stages
