My bills have been pending for WEEKS from South State. When I went to speak about this with Pam Wright in the Clarkesville branch, she stated that I should not rely on their online banking or the app for keeping up with my balance. She also told me "Don't cut it so close when you pay your bills". Super unprofessional and inappropriate. They're bonuses are bases off of the overdraft fees they charge their customers. Pam there also stated that she has no idea if a few of my pending bills have reflected my balance or not either. I have called for weeks with them and each billing company, and all I get is the run around from customer service at South State. I use to not have any problems for years, but this account we use for bills, has costed us several hundred dollars in fees because of their slow process. Everyone warned me about banking here. Do yourself a favor and go to a local credit union or anywhere but here.

I used Community bank and stuck with them into South State bank all through highschool and much of college. However my experience with them today is a stark reminder of why I left them for USAA after joining the military. Went to cash federal bonds today, something that is possible at ANY federally backed bank and is even stated as such on the federal government's website for cashing and purchasing bonds. They refuse to do so here unless you have an account with them, even though it is a government document and not a mere paycheck. The next bank I went to did it without question like they are mandated to do as a federally backed financial institution.

EDIT: I received a phone call from one of the local mangers and an apology. She also gave me direct phone number so I can avoid dealing with anyone at their call center. This means a lot to me, I prefer to speak to someone locally when it comes to anything involving my money.Previous:I called this morning to get money wiring info for my attorney's office... After waiting on hold for 15min... I was told "tell them to just call the wiring line" than hung up on...! Ill take my money somewhere else

I deposited my check in the ATM on Sunday. Unaware that Monday was Columbus Day and the bank would be closed. But even closed they allowed all my bills to withdrawn from my account. So I spent yesterday without cash although I had to work. Today, Tuesday, I still show that I’m over drafted and still can’t get cash from my bank although all my debtors can get my payments. I called and was informed it could be up to 3 days before it’s deposited??? No where on the atm does it say this and you would think if your depositing it into to the bank atm it would be completed the first day they open. I have a receipt but that doesn’t seem to matter. Been with them 11 years and 3 different names but looks like I’m finding a new bank ASAP!

I have had terrible experience with this bank. Mobile deposits are being held Or rejected without notification, And there is absolutely no personalized customer service. Employees seem tired and unhappy and absolutely unwilling to go an inch out of their way. I went by there to have a will notarized. The notary was just about to do it when some girl walked up and said we’re not supposed to notarize wills. This was about a week after they notarized my husband’s will. It doesn’t seem that there is any management or proper training. Certainly no training in customer service. The final blow was when I went to make a deposit for my father at regions bank across the street and the teller was so incredibly friendly and thanking me (my father) for 32 years of business. Their friendliness and appreciation of our business was a stark contrast to South State Bank After about 12 years I am making the switch.

Drive Through hours are not helpful to anyone who works a daytime job. During Covid they were not accomodating to customers at all, closing drive through at 5pm, and now, not being open Saturdays! Thus during the week have very long lines and very long wait periods, especially at lunch. One branch has to have police for traffic control. They have made customers lives even more inconvenient during an already difficult time. Very disappointed in this bank!

I called inquiring more information on a loan. The loan officer told me she would have to call me back but she would not check my credit until she called me back. Next day, hard injury showed up on my credit. Looking for another bank.

We have had a sizable account with this branch for over 20 years as security for my business. I called to get the balance on the account and was told that I should move the account to a CD for more interest. I was told I just needed to come into the bank and sign something. I replied that I might do that in the future. The next day I was told by the secured entity that the bank had called and told them I was withdrawing the account so I could no longer transact business with them. This cost my company a great deal of money in lost revenue while I could assure the entity that the bank was wrong and there was no intention to withdraw the funds. There was no apology from the bank whatsoever and when I drove 70 miles to make the change in the account the bank had recommended they said they couldn't make the change after all. Again no hint of an apology. I was then told by the bank that for the necessary update on the account they would need to check with the legal department and call me back. Two months later still no call. After calling them no one could help me so I ask them to call me back when the person who could help was available. No call back has occurred. This has been an incredibly frustrating experience and I would never recommend this bank to anyone.

Sarah Jones loan officer is the worst. I get that when you’re late they have to make phone calls to try and figure out when you’re going to pay. But whenever you ask her multiple times not to share your information with your mom she still does. My mom’s information was not suppose to be anywhere near my account but yet she has called her on multiple occasions. She got the information off of my old account which my mom was on.
