Broad River Outpost has been the trusted outfitter on the Broad River since 1982, offering a fun and relaxing outdoor experience. It operates mainly from late March to early October, with rentals available on two river sections: the upper 6 miles and the lower 6.5 miles. The upper section is calm and scenic, featuring a moderate current, while the lower section offers beginner whitewater with four major shoals, each with Class II rapids. Some areas upstream of the rapids are calmer, making it suitable for all skill levels. The Outpost rents sit-on-top kayaks for both sections and can provide canoes for the upper section. Shuttle service costs $10 per person for private boaters. Visitors are advised to make phone reservations, wear sunscreen, and pack essentials like water, lunch, and a dry bag for valuables. The river is shallow overall, so checking water levels beforehand is recommended. Visitors praise the friendly and knowledgeable staff, describing them as warm and helpful. Many mention that early arrival is best due to limited parking and popularity. The Outpost provides gear, PFDs, and a general store, making it easy for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy a day on the river. Overall, it offers a safe, enjoyable, and family-friendly adventure for all outdoor lovers.
My friend and I were the only people on the river on an August Monday. BRO staff was helpful and not overbearing. Very chill. Not unattractive, I must say.
We were here last in 1990. We won’t wait another 35 years next time!

We love both parts of the river. We took our dog this last trip, and she did great!

Great experience. Far price for a 4+ hr adventure. Pack a lunch and at least half a gallon of water per person. Bring a dry bag and a hard waterproof box for your phone wallet and keys. STRAP everything down tightly, you will loose stuff if not.
