Hours: The McIntosh Art Association, founded on October 5, 2000, by four friends who enjoyed painting together, is a vibrant non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in McIntosh County. With a current membership of 265 and growing, the association sponsors exhibits, sales, educational classes, and trips, and maintains an art center and museum. The organization emphasizes the visual arts and supports various creative endeavors in the community. Housed in Darien's historic old jail, the art association offers visitors a unique experience—combining art, history, and local culture. The building’s history is rich and tragic, being the site where George Grant was murdered in 1930, an event that reflects the injustices of that era. Despite its somber past, the place has transformed into a peaceful and beautiful space filled with artwork and serene surroundings. Visitors often find the artwork and trees here to be beautiful, and many appreciate the genuine, friendly people involved, especially the director, who is highly praised for doing an amazing job.
