Just glad they had fuel today. The clerk there today (10/14 @ 4pm) was very nice and cordial. The clerks there always greet you with smile, very refreshing. ?

August 2023 by Mark Flowers
I had a dispute with a clerk located at this Mobil on 4652 Chapel Hill Rd, on Thursday August 3, 2023, at approximately 8:15am. This was really odd because the clerks that I have previously dealt with here have always been so nice. I am a 53 year old man that avoids any type of disputes, especially publicly. The young female clerk was dressed in Muslim/Islamic attire and had an earring in her nose. Of course she had some tattoos. She was pretty standoffish to have the appearance and to be a clerk of a popular brand gas station. So this is what happened. I pulled up to pump #3. I went inside to make my purchase. I said good morning and then grabbed a bag of corn nuts before approaching the counter. I handed the clerk $48 (three $10 bills, three $5 bills and three $3 bills) and asked to give me "$43 dollars on pump number 3 proceeded to pay for the corn nuts with the additional $5 that was left. She took the $43 dollars for the gas first and then processed the transaction for the corn nuts. I mentioned that I wanted some orange juice but I would wait to see how much change was leftover from the corn nuts. She handed me back about $1.85 from that transaction, at that time I raised the bag of nuts and casually said "I'm guessing these cost almost $5"? She replied "It cost $3 and change". I then replied "Oh okay".I proceeded to go outside and pump the gas that I paid for. After a minute the pump clicked stop at $23. So at first I thought that I gave the clerk too much money. You see, here's the thing, I just arrived from California maybe 2 months ago, so there is a large difference in gas prices between the two states. So I went back inside and waited for the clerk to tend to the customer she was waiting on. Afterwards I asked her, nicely, if there was a problem with my pump because I had given her "$43" for gas. She told me that I had only given her $23. I said no that she was wrong and I recanted the exact sequence of bill denominations that I gave, but she was still adamant that I only gave her $23 because that is what she believed was heard coming out of my mouth.(?) This went back and forth a couple of times and she just finally pulled $10 out of the cash drawer and slammed it on the counter. That was not enough and she owed me $13 more dollars, but I begrudgingly took the $10 because I didn't see an immediate resolution and I had to be on my way to work.I planned to file a complaint after composing the event that occurred. First of all I was not offered a receipt, but I guess you can fault me for not asking for one either. I just cannot see how asking for a receipt after the confusion would have helped anyway? I will not make that mistake again!Second, throughout the whole dispute the clerk said that she heard me say $23 dollars on pump number #3. Ok, let's say this is a fact. At what point does the clerk count the money I gave her? Because if she heard $23, then does that mean that is the amount I actually gave her? If her logic is true, then what if I said $100 on pump #3 and gave her $10? The two don't sound similar? Would she have checked the amount then?Third she addressed me as "Bruh" at the end of every statement. Example/quote "next time don't forget to count your change, BRUH!" I couldn't understand what triggered the extra aggression coming from her direction. To avoid all this confusion, I will most certainly make this a credit transaction next time and then make sure I ask for a receipt. I just keep feeling like this was a deliberate attempt to "steal" money from a patron of the gas station.

It is a convenience store with fuel and lottery. Never had an issue there.

The energy here! Support our local businesses and let's encourage THIS business to stay competitive for the local clientele. Lost for words on how to describe this gas station. I assume there are new owners now?
