The staff at The Animal Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe, GA is second to none. Dr. Hadden is the best. Her compassion for the animal and the owner, along with her professionalism, makes her one of the best in the business. Simply put, she has become part of our family. She's always there when you need her.

Dr Shaffeld is awesome! He always goes above and beyond for my Dexter. He has a calming way of coaxing my fur baby to do what he needs and literally loves on him.Dr Hadden is also caring and goes above to make sure we are satisfied and understand the diagnosis and how to care for them. Both Vets personally call within 48-72 hours to check on them. I couldn’t ask for a better vet to treat my babies.

The vet is very skilled and intelligent, and I was happy with how he treated my cat. He is warm and personable instead of overly clinical as many vets tend to be, which was great. The vet tech was knowledgeable, down to earth, and kind! Interior could use a revamp and deep clean (baseboards etc), and I was almost overcharged until I corrected the associate at the front desk.

Due to the neglect of a proper exam, our cat had to suffer for 48 hours unnecessarily. Had the "Vet" (and I use that term extremely loosely) performed a proper exam or ethically acted and sent us somewhere else for proper testing, the cat could have found peace sooner. However, that didn't happen. When I called the office and asked for the Office Manager, she couldn't even take the time to return my call. This is the most inhumane "Animal Medical Center" in town. Also, judging by the way the Office Manager has chosen to ignore me, either this happens so often they have become immune to complaints or they just truly could care less.

I've been a customer of AMC Ft. Oglethorpe for many years, as have members of my family, though I understand the AMC practice is no longer owned by Dr. Schaffeld (he still owns the building), but was purchased by PetVet Care Centers, Inc. a couple of years ago. (I hope PVCC reads this review, too). Let me say that I appreciate and like Dr. Candace Hadden, who is a kind, compassionate and talented veterinarian. I would highly recommend her to anyone. Unfortunately, to get to her you have to check-in with the unfriendly, passive-aggressive reception staff. Their lack of basic "people skills" is likely the real reason AMC has had to put up a big, blue sign front & center at reception, warning customers that their "abusive and aggressive behavior will not be tolerated". As I experienced today, poor behavior goes BOTH ways. The reception staff apparently don't adhere to the belief that they are also not to be abusive, aggressive, combative and rude. Today, I had the misfortune of communicating with a receptionist named Kris (rainbow highlights in her hair, not a reflection of her demeanor), who interjected herself into the conversation I was having with another receptionist with whom I was checking-in and discussing the bill I was given prior to my cat's sedation (so I could take him next door to another business for a groom). The bill for the sedation was $182.25. I asked why the price had increased, since my pet's last sedation, and Kris INTERJECTED, "we have to increase our prices due to the economy". I responded "I don't pay this much for sedation at my Vets in the Atlanta metro area." Kris' response, "They have more people in Atlanta and can afford to charge less money. " Such ignorance! Still, I called my metro Atlanta vet when I returned home (Apalachee River Animal Hospital), and they confirmed they charge $87.17 for a pet groom sedation! They also agreed the price of AMC's sedation was high. So, with a groom not being an invasive surgery, I cancelled my appointment onsite; though throughout, Kris was intent on having the last word insisting that I was wrong. Instead of minding her own business and letting me proceed with her colleague, she wanted to keep the disagreement going, so far as to mumble under her breath after I asked her to "just stop". Not to be one-upp'ed she basically invited me to leave, because I dared talk back to her in disagreement. Earlier, she had shared that she'd had to have a customer removed the day prior, when I questioned the need for the placement of such a negative sign in an establishment dedicated to the health & well-being of animals. You might very well have issues with unhappy customers, but it's my opinion Receptionist Kris' combative attitude is likely the common denominator. I'm a business professional of 40 years, and I have people skills. I also recognize when people don't have them. Kris does not have the personality to occupy a seat in reception. As an adult, I refuse to be talked down to by an aggressive receptionist, who postures as an authority on my pet's care. I asked to speak to Dr. Hadden, and Kris responded "No, if you have a problem with me you can talk to me." Sorry Kris, I don't have to talk to you at all. As a paying customer I have a right to ask questions about any bill I'm given in advance of any service I receive, whether you are in agreement with my opinion of the bill, or not. Dr. Hadden, thank you for speaking to me today privately about this matter. Appreciate your time. I will not be returning.
