I don’t normally write bad reviews for products but after my experience with Dekor customer service and “lifetime” warranty I felt I had to let other customers know what they would be dealing with if their Dekor diaper pail with a “lifetime” warranty broke. So the tab at the front of the diaper pail that holds the lid down snapped off. It wasn’t from dropping or bumping of the of the pail, but the tab just has a weak joint….like a piece of plastic that if it continues to get used and wiggled in the weak spot, it will eventually break. It’s clearly a design flaw. I contacted the company since they advertised a “lifetime” warranty. It was bought 2 years previous, but I had only been using it for 6 months because I cloth diapered my son and used a diaper service for 18 months so I didn’t use this diaper pail at first. It is a very nice, sleek design, functionality is fine, does the job and does keep the smell in as long as all the pieces are working. However, once the tab broke, as you can imagine, it doesn’t shut fully, so does NOT keep the smell in. Their customer service said, because it was purchased 2 years ago, they could not replace the piece because it is not considered a manufacturer defect. They didn’t care that I had only used it for 6 months, but regardless…if you have a lifetime warranty, and your tab of plastic breaks, even if I did use it for 2 years, I imagine customers are expecting more than 2 years use out of it, especially since it advertises use as a trash can after. I basically just needed the ring around the lid replaced, but they said they could not help me. Finally, I said I will be happy to purchase the piece. They said they do not sell that replacement piece. My only option was to throw it away and buy a new one which I think is very wasteful. What is the point of a lifetime warranty when they don’t even have parts to keep the product in use. Anyways, I had no reason to buy a completely new Dekor pail, so we switched to a MotherEase diaper pail which is not as pretty, but very sturdy. If you choose this diaper pail, reinforce that little tab that holds the lid down!
