I don't like writing bad reviews of small businesses. Unfortunately given the importance of the work AK Tax Service does, I want to let others know about my experience. 2023 was my second year having my taxes done at AK Tax Service, Lakeview location (on Cornelia). Last year everything went smoothly. My taxes were filed in a timely manner and the small sum I owed the IRS was deducted from my checking account. So I returned this year. They have a new portal so I was able to upload all my documents which was great. Then I was given the option of coming in to complete the filing, or doing it over the phone. I opted to come in. This year I owed significantly more, over $3K. Again I provided my checking acct info to have the tax payment deducted from my account. However, it was never deducted. I sent an email about a week later advising I hadn't seen the payment come out of my checking acct and asking for confirmation that everything had been submitted. No response. I began traveling for work and got busy so neglected to check back in, until I received notice from the IRS that my payment had not been received and now I owed interest and a penalty, increasing my amt due by about $70. I had about 3 weeks to make the payment, or I would incur additional penalties up to 50% of the amt due. Unfortunately I was again traveling and didn't see the notice until the week before the due date. I emailed Nick again. No response. So I called and left a voice mail. No response. Fortunately I was able to pay my total amt due online directly to the IRS. Otherwise I would have had to pay even more. I definitely will not be going back to AK Tax Service. I realize they are busy during tax season, and sometimes mistakes happen, but it's completely unacceptable to be wholly unresponsive over the course of two full months after charging a substantial fee to handle everything. Very disappointing. If anyone knows a reliable tax accountant, I'm in the market for a new one! :/

The owner and accountant Nick was very unresponsive when I attempted to schedule my appointment for my taxes. He then committed to doing my taxes but didn't file in time because he said he was "too busy". He then charged me for filing an extension even though he was responsible for not filing my taxes on time. When he finally filed my taxes I received a big tax bill, much higher than I expected. I had to hire another tax professional to review my taxes and sure enough AK tax services had many errors on their filings. Never using this service again.

They never call back. I was supposed to get taxes back 6 weeks ago. Still waiting.I'm still waiting for my taxes or at least a call back. It's been over six weeks.

I went to AK Tax service last year to have my taxes done very close to tax day. With a shared mortgage, contractor work, and business deductions, I figured my situation was a bit complicated. Nick was very responsive to my initial request, and it was easy to schedule time to meet, even though it was his busy season.Nick made it easy for my both partner and I to get everything resolved in one quick meeting. He let us know additional items he needed from us and was easily accessible via email. In the end, we received our final tax reports in a timely manner, and the deductions we received were more than we expected, which more than made up for the tax service fee.We were so pleased with the results and process, we went again this year to have our taxes done, and experienced the same great service. We went to Nick since we need professional help filing taxes this year. He listened to our situation and was able to provide concise and informative tips on how to proceed. Another thing that struck us was how he knew all of his clients by name when they walked into his office which made us feel like he was someone we could trust. At the end of the meeting, we were pleased with how our process went and highly recommend him.

I would give a 0 if I could. Firstly, there is no privacy when doing your taxes. The first run at doing our taxes, they were off by several thousand dollars!! When I asked about this, I felt the assistant kid of blew me off and I told him I really didn't understand how I was off by this much, so he said I could hang out to ask Nick. He obviously rushed through my explanation regarding a part of our taxes and saw his mistake and fixed it. THEN, we didn't receive our taxes for over a month. This is likely because he DID THEM WRONG. We received hundreds of dollars less than we were supposed to, with no explanation by the gov't. When we contacted Nick about this, we received no response. Then about 2 months later, we received quite a bit of money back from the state as the taxes had not been done correctly. Again, we contacted Nick to help us understand all of this. My husband spoke to his assistant who said he would contact us the next day. Two weeks later, again NO RESPONSE. Unbelievable.
