Great selection of used books, but the store stank of dirty litter and unclean cats. If you can handle the smell, it has a wide variety of books. I left feeling nauseous and with a burning sensation in my nose.

I found some of my favorite childhood books here for a great price. The best find was the Edgar Allen Poe book that has all his stories and poems in one edition.

Used books and friendly cats, what else could you want? My favorite bookstore to visit, I love hanging out with these kitties! Super fun owner as well.

This is the first place I've ever bookmarked on Maps; it's absolutely wonderful. I've got a metaphorical million doctors to see in Atlanta, so I found myself looking for places to check out along the to-and-from drive, and when I saw a place combining books and lil' fur babies, I knew I had to check it out. It was one of my Best Decisions EVER. The owner was super nice, and he had an AMAZING sale going on when I first went - I guess you'd call it an "overstock sale"? - with paperbacks for fifty cents and hardbacks for a dollar! And, of course, the CATS!! I absolutely fell in love with those sweet creatures; they're ADORABLE, and even after I'd made my purchase, I wasn't quite ready to leave because the cats were SO PRECIOUS. (And the owner seemed to understand that just fine; he even let me stick around & ask him questions about the cats & the store; he was so, so kind.) I can't adequately describe how happy this store made me; as I'm typing this review, I'm beginning another trip to Atlanta, and I just found out that my aunt planned to surprise me with another visit to the Golden Bough Bookstore, because I loved it souch the first time! And I'm absolutely ecstatic about it! I think the world would be a happier place if everyone could combine the things they love, like how this place combines books and sweet friends who have fur.

The Golden Bough is the best bookstore in town! The owner, Eric, is attentive, responsive, has an honest sense of humor and an insane memory for what I'm looked for before. He's the epitomy of "well read".(My personal disclaimer, though: bring allergy medication if you're allergic to cats. He's got three rescued, full-grown kittehz roaming around.)

Excellent little independent used bookshop in the heart of downtown Macon - great selection of books, adorable shop cats, friendly atmosphere... Went several days during our visit, had a great time browsing, and came away with some real treasures!

One of Macon's few REAL Independent book stores. If you haven't gone yet I recommend it. The owner/operator is very knowledgeable and I don't think I've stomped him yet on an author. There are cats so keep this in mind if you have a pet allergy or phobia. A very welcoming place to visit, and a great alternative to that which must not Be Named.

Very nice shop and much bigger than it looks from the outside. The two cats are friendly. Good selection of books. I read a lot of varied genres and it was nice to find such a wide variety. Will definitely be back!

I love this bookshop. I’ve been taking my family here for the last year or so and they love to see the cats (I think it’s cute how at least one of the cats become borderline insistent when it wants to be pet), but I come for the books.I really appreciate the selection of classics and philosophy - genres that probably don’t move quickly but are good for the brain and soul - but I’m just as impressed by the selection of comics, graphic novels, and Stephen King books. I’m building a personal library of King hardcovers in good condition and was able to snatch up FOURTEEN in one go (and at a very good price, too).My favorite part of the shop, though, is the atmosphere. It’s relaxed and calm. There’s no rush to find books, buy, and get out. You can take your time and talk to the owner and have a good conversation about books. It’s also not like the other used bookshops in the area. The store credit policy is much more friendly than other local used bookshops and there’s a distinct lack of Christian music being piped through or religious accoutrements eating up floor space. You might think this isn’t remarkable, but it is when it comes to middle Georgia and it’s a breath of fresh air.I’ll be moving soon and this shop and Between Friends (a coffee shop in Warner Robins) are going to be what I miss the most. It’s a very cool shop and I wish them nothing but the best.
