Two years before my father in law passed, he invited his tailor, David Mercer of Tom James Company, to come measure my husband and son and invited my husband's brother, who was already a client of David's, and his son. We had wine, were measured and each picked out a suit or a blazer for my father in law to give them as Christmas gifts. Ten years later and David is an essential part of my family's clothing life: he helps me maintain my husband's wardrobe, he has made several suits for our daughter in which she won a national forensics title while in college and several she continues to wear, and he has made blazers, shirts and suits for our son and even the suit in which he was married. We are trying to schedule an appointment now for my son who is in residency in Nashville to be remeasured for a new suit. I love working with David and look forward to each visit to catch up on his family and see the latest fabrics and ties!

David Mercer is the best! I have bought all my suits from David and the Tom James Company for well over a decade. David is not pushy and doesn’t need to be. Once you buy a Tom James suit from David you’ll see that the quality, longevity, and fit of these suits practically sell themselves.
I was skeptical at first, but not for long. I promise you his suits look just as good years later as the day they were made!
David knows everything there is to know about tailored clothing, and he will spend as much time as you need to find the perfect product. At the same time, he is always accommodating to my schedule, is always punctual, and respectful of my time.

My husband has purchased custom suits and other individual items of clothing from Tom James Company for years. He’s not an “off-the-rack” shopper because he requires the custom fit provided by Tom James Company. His professional career as an attorney required that he be sharply dressed. Now that he is retired and his body has changed we contacted our area representative, David Mercer, for some alteration assistance. David came to our home, had my husband try on all of the items needing adjustment, carefully noted the changes needed on all items and sent them directly back to the company for professional alteration. MANY of these items were purchased more than 20 years ago! All items were returned to us with a PERFECT fit! I can’t say enough good things about Tom James Company, in general, and David Mercer, in particular for those making an investment in their professional wardrobe.
