Been going here for years like 2010 I think. I like the doctors and even the new ones well not so new anymore but they are nice and knowledgeable. Everybody is nice and helpful when you are visiting. I think they take in too many patients as appointments are rarely kept on time. The lab results is my other issue, they never call back with results. You have to call them all the time and they say they will call you back and NEVER do. I have 3 animals so over the years we have done plenty of tests and they are all like this. All I want is test results. The last instance it took 3 weeks after I called at least twice a week asking and she did have an infection. My cat went through 3 weeks untreated. That was the final straw and we decided to go elsewhere with our 3 furbabies. The cost is low compared to others but I'd rather pay more elsewhere if that's what it takes to just get results timely.

I must emphasize, this review is based on one visit. We chose this animal hospital due to proximity to the neighborhood and many good reviews. We have 2 elderly dogs (12 years +) We took one dog because he had an ear infection and it was also time for his rabies shot---so it was convenient to try a vet closer to home. Dekalb Animal Hospital is pricey compared to our usual vet. The exam alone was $30 higher. The exam, treatment for an ear infection and a rabies shot came to over $270, so if you are on a budget, this may not be the best choice. The staff seemed pleasant, but I was not comfortable with the veterinarian. When I mentioned that our dog had been *diagnosed* with Crohn's Disease, he actually chuckled and said Crohn's is a human disease. He also denied that our dog had a previously *diagnosed* heart murmur saying he didn't hear a murmur (our dog groomers will no longer groom our dog, as they say it sounds like the dog had a heart murmur). The Dekalkb Animal Hospital veterinarian additionally denied our dog has cararacts (also diagnosed), saying he did not see any cloudiness in the dog's eyes. When the vet poked his fingers towards our dog's eyes, the dog did not move, so the vet said it must be some other eye disease. I remarked that his eyes always looked cloudy to me. I mentioned that I make food from scratch for my dogs and also give them vitamins as suggested by our longtime vet. As we were leaving, the Dekalb Animal Hospital vet told me that I should stop making fresh food (rice, green beans, raw carrots, chicken, salmon, blueberries) and switch to Hill's Science Diet (on display in their lobby) instead. The experience was troublesome, but the ear infection treatment worked well. Overall, I felt like we were being treated like we were stupid. We have decades of experience as dog owners. I did not feel I should be argumentative with a trained professional, but his observations were confusing. We will just never go back to Dekalb Animal Hospital. It took me a while to write this review, as I don't want to be unfair to the rest of the staff.

We have been very impressed with the staff & vets at DeKalb Animal Hospital, especially Dr’s Courtney & Cox. Before proceeding with treatment they provide a detailed financial estimate, which I find to be especially helpful. They have been our vet for over 10 years and we will continue to use them.

The prices are exorbitant, I took my dog according to them, they gave me a discount I paid $180 dollars. For a follow up, I have to pay again, when it is just a follow-up, other veterinarians do not charge for the second consultation. Despite all this, my dog dog continues to get worse. They are very expensive and my pet has medical insurance.Be careful taking your pet there.

They’ll take great care of your dog, but do not cater to cats. My 3 month old cat had a side effect caused by a vaccine and instead of considering that as an option, they simply said they wanted to put her down. We got a second opinion and she’s now happy and healthy at 4 years old.

I use this place for grooming services, Amanda is the only person that has ever groomed Bella & the only person that ever will. She actually smiles at Amanda during the process ?

Ive been going here over 20 years. There have been changes However we all change. Recently Dr. Courtney has been helping with my 18-year-old pup. Heart condition and I can't bring him in. With no charge she speaks to me on the phone and gives prescriptions. Her time is scarce, but she takes the time and with no fee. I appreciate this place!

Dekalb Animal Hospital WAS a great vet clinic, but since being bought out by Thrive, it has gone downhill. I had been going to them for 8yrs. Every month paying for a bath package for my dog. Every month for 8yrs my dog has been priced at as a small dog. Out of nowhere, regardless of my history, they decided to put him in the medium dog category… he obviously for more money. That was the last straw, but there were other issues before this. The new groomers they brought in cut my dogs nails too short. Cut 2 quicks on one paw and a few others to the tip of the quick. My dogs nails are mostly clear/see-through so not hard to see where the quick starts. They also never told me when I picked my dog up who was pulling me to the door (never happened before). I discovered it once home and my pup was acting “off”. They said from now on to have them do a nail grind instead…. For a completely separate, extra charge. What happened last week, I went to pick up the my dog’s allergy drops. It mysteriously went up over $40 more even though the last few times, they had raised the price for inflation. They are greedy, plain and simple. There’s other amazing vets close by that are priced reasonably. It’s not the employees, but the new management that has ruined this place. Not going back, ps they no longer specialize in bulldogs. Not sure what sets them apart from the others now that it is owned by Thrive. Heartbroken it changed for the worse so quickly

My 11 yr old pointer pit mix got an ear infection and after 1 day of trying to treat it on our own we decided he needed a vet visit. Our usual vet was unavailable for the next week so I started making calls. I reach out to Dekalb animal hospital and was relieved they could get us in the next day. Prior to the appointment I got a confirmation text which is a nice reminder. The staff was really sweet and my dog is usually really freaked out at the vet and can be reactive but they were cool and calm with him. The tech told us just how everything would go and gave us a baseline cost estimate. They took my dog to go be treated and left us in the room. When they came back to my surprise my muzzled dog was not muzzled but was just fine! What a relief! The doctor explained everything done and gave options for additional treatment beyond the meds needed to cure the ear infection. It was quick , comfortable and easy which is just what I was looking for. Thanks DAH!

I had to take my elderly cat (over 21 years old) when she went into a sudden downward spiral, stopped eating, and then began crying out and gasping for air on the day I took her to Dekalb Animal Hospital. She had passed by the time I got her there. The vet was very kind and compassionate and actually waited for me.I kept hoping she would rally and get better but realize now it would not happen. She was such a good cat and we had such good times together.Thank you for caring for my cat.

Great ppl and quick scheduling. They did make a potentially bad error by not informing me that their system didn’t update records properly so they ending up giving my dog unnecessary vaccinations - I’m hoping no adverse reactions occur with my doggo. It might have been helpful to confirm with patrons what they intend to do with one’s dog prior to doing anything, especially if the system contains inaccurate information

Screw this place! I have been bring my 3 dogs here for ALL of the vaccinations, monthly flea and heart worm medicine, I have boarded my dogs there.. everything! 2 of my dogs had to have Cherry eye surgeries. 1 of my dogs surgeries didn’t work so we had to do it again and fix it(which I paid full price for again on the same dog) one side came out again. We had surgery set up for dr rush to redo the surgery so he could fix it on the house. Since I have paid twice for this! Now that dr rush isn’t there anymore, they can’t do the surgery and won’t give me a refund for the 1 of the surgeries he did. I am so disappointed how they have handled this situation, I liked everyone there but I will never bring any of my animals here ever again.

The doctor here is amazing however, Taylor is very rude and unprofessional. I was told once as a black woman to put a collar around my pup and stated, “like a noose”Today I asked for a quote because I was quoted a price once and he didn’t get anything different from what we discussed and the price was $50 more than quoted and she immediately got defensive and told me that she didn’t know how long my pup was behind but also telling me how far he was behind but she didn’t have time to answer my questions as a receptionist and she’d email me because she didn’t want to answer me.
