Wow. We were really looking forward to finally getting a chance to stay at the Fitzpatrick. However, for us there were several surprises. Upon entering the lobby I thought we were coming into a day care center, there were several moms and there children of different ages and volumes behind the registration desk. Kind of a spoiler for the old time elegance of the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised that our room was upgrade to the suite. We enjoyed the large elegant room. The bathroom was what you would expect from the era but for us, we couldn’t really use the shower as you had to step over and into deep claw foot tub with no safety aids. We are an older couple so that didn’t work well for us. I had hoped that this current owner had restored the wood work and revamped the carpets. Not so. Also a concern was their elevator inspection was almost 6 month’s out of date. Having been stuck in the past this was sort of scary. I am glad we finally stayed here but most likely will not return.

We stayed here twice this month and it's a lovely hotel with friendly, helpful employees. Beautiful, historic, clean, nice place to stay! We'll be back!
Oh, and loved Duffy's Public House. Unique & delicious.

My Grandson Cody Atkins was Married to Rachel. Which was a huge success! Large family & friends gathering. I slept in upstairs bedroom which had a friendly ghost visiting me. All night I was getting summoned. Kinda scarry, but made me more alert to my surroundings.

Only reason for the low rating is due to past management! Haven't been since new management had taken over. It's a beautiful hotel and hope it gets back to where it should/could be

What a wonderful and loving restoration! The history of this hotel is fascinating. Katie at the front desk was quite wonderful. In fact, everyone was helpful, pleasant and friendly. We are so glad we found this place and recommend it.
Rooms: Lovely and clean, very retro mod.
Nearby activities: On the square, Maddy’s Public House on site, Farmers Market, music, shops
Safety: Small town security
Walkability: Felt so good to not have to drive anywhere else. There is also a self-guided walking tour of historic locations in the town. We wandered throughout the facility and marveled at the painstaking restoration and details.
Food and drinks: Maddy’s offers pub grub and some craft beers. Ask for Jessica’s table, she provided excellent service and was so friendly and personable.

A beautiful, historical hotel in a small, gem of a town!
Rooms: Historic rooms are original and cozy.
Nearby activities: Many colonial homes and museums
Walkability: Seems like you can walk to all parts of downtown Washington from the hotel, which is at the heart of the Square

Beautiful place but has no staff on duty pretty much self serve only a cleaning lady that was excellent in helping us but she leaves in the afternoon then if you need anything your out of luck and if you call the website number it says its not in operation. Another man staying that night was complaining about the same 2 problems our tv quit after 5 minutes no one to help us so we left and went home! Plus the entire town shops are closed until Thursday Friday and Saturday .
Nearby activities: There is nothing to do nearby
Safety: No staff on duty ever! Windows are sealed shut. Very unsafe!
Noteworthy details: The hotel is like abandoned and no help if you need something totally unacceptable very unsafe at night!

Amazing Historic Hotel. Hotel appears to be family owned/operated and I love that. Check-in was a breeze and the Hospitality was such a breath of fresh air!
Rooms: Well preserved hotel/room. The originality was amazing. It was as if, I took a step back in time!

Great historic hotel in the heart of a charming town. Great shops and restaurants within walking distance. Only issue, AC could use some help. We understand it is often expensive and difficult to up fit historic buildings with modern conveniences, so we dealt with it. But the AC system could be upgraded.

4-15-24: Being a victim of A.D.D. and loving it it has given me sharp attention to detail. The hotel is not the Ritz and that's not why you go there. You go there for a deep appreciation for old world charm and woodworking that only old time craftmanship can deliver. The bed in room 208 was comfortable and the room charming. In olden days the window over the door would open to let out hot air (no AC back then) and the claw tub romantic. Time for detail, smoke alarm beeping, faucet handles loose, rooms are scantily furnished (could use a second night stand) and its been a while since the renovation so its time for some TLC. With that being said I would definitely go back and stay for more then one night, maybe dress my wife in a turn of the century night gown and chase her down the hall. Just kidding, Its still the off season but the porch would have been really cool to hang out on with the lights and a glass of wine. Suggestions, owner needs to do some up keeping (not the people who run it) maybe make a deal with a local place to provide breakfast? 24 hour staff? I didn't see anyone and is it possible to exchange free room for 24 hour desk service? With that said I will definitely come back to try out those corner rooms and see if the change I put on the dresser stacks itself again. sincerely the amateur hotel critic.
