The Hawaiian Railway Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Hawaii's railroading history. They operate the only historic railroad on the island of Oahu and the only operating railroad museum in the state. The railway offers scenic train rides year-round, taking passengers along a historic stretch of track west of old Ewa. During the ride, the conductor shares stories about the history of railroading in Hawaii, while local, old-school music plays in the background. The train makes a 25-minute stop at the Ko'olina center, where passengers can enjoy ice cream or snacks. Reviewers describe the experience as a "pleasantly surprising fun" and a "really fun experience." The open-air ride allows guests to enjoy the cool breeze and beautiful scenery, including views of the nearby ocean. The train museum on-site is also noted as an interesting attraction. The staff is described as kind, and the society is praised for their thoughtful touches, such as checking for any stragglers before the train departs the Ko'olina stop. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are also welcome when seats are available. Overall, the Hawaiian Railway Society provides a unique and enjoyable experience for visitors looking to explore a different side of Oahu and learn about the island's railroading history.

Got to see a different part of the island than we probably would have seen otherwise. I'm honestly surprised there isn't more visibility to this on travel blogs and to-do list as it was a fun... read full comment
