About Pe'ahi Jaws Surf Break
Pe'ahi Jaws Surf Break is an iconic surf spot on Maui's north shore, renowned for its massive and incredible waves, especially in the winter. It is a breathtaking, spectacular, and epic hidden wonder for watching big wave surfing. The location is remote and the journey there is part of the adventure. The road leading in is treacherous and challenging, suitable only for high-bodied 4x4 vehicles with off-road driving experience; rental cars and standard SUVs should not attempt it. Most visitors hike the final stretch, which is a moderate to challenging trek of about two miles. The hike is worth the effort, offering an authentic, non-commercialized, and raw Maui experience. The view from the cliff is breathtaking and electric on big wave days, when professional surfers tackle the massive waves. The atmosphere is friendly, with a mix of locals and international visitors. It is essential to prepare properly: wear sturdy shoes, bring plenty of water, sunscreen, snacks, and a camera. There are no facilities and limited phone service. The best time to visit for the biggest waves is the winter months, and checking the surf report beforehand is crucial. The experience is free, unforgettable, and perfect for adventure enthusiasts, nature admirers, and photography lovers.

Just hike if you must see it. It wasn't winter when we went, so it wasn't going off, but we wanted to get some exercise, so we hiked to check it out—we had the place all to ourselves.
