This was a really fun hike. As you walked you see different areas and each one is unique. A big tree, waterfalls, and the bamboo forest were just spectacular! We camped in the campground so it was an easy walk straight to the trail.

The Pipiwai Trail is a pretty nice hike at the very end of the Road to Hana. It is a rather easy hike and not too steep nor too far. Along the way you pass two scenic bridges and walk through a beautiful bamboo forest. In order to enter the trail it is recommended to park at the visitor center. You have to pay the entrance fee for the Haleakalā National Park in this case. We parked our car on the side of the road at first but we told to park inside the center by a guard. We were were told that cars get damaged often.

This trail is at the end of the Road to Hana tour we took and had to pay $30 to get in to the Haleakala park. The hike took 45 minutes to get to the big fall at the end and it is about 400 feet high. It was amazing! There is a sign not to go past a certain point at the end, but if you do choose to, you will find the base of the waterfall about 5 minutes further past the sign. The hiking trail is amazing with rock steps and boardwalks throughout the bamboo forest. This was a fun and easy hike. We were able to do the entire hike in less than 2 hours and started it at 5pm. We had plenty of daylight the entire time and also enjoyed climbing the big banyon looking tree. We saw any families going in and out, including some grandmas. It was basically needing to be able to go up and downstairs over and over for 2 miles in order to judge if you can do this hike.Bug spray also is a good idea because the mosquitos started to eat us up. Going at 5pm seemed like a pretty good time because it wasnt very busy going in, and we passed a lot of families coming out.

Best of all the hikes that we’ve been to. The hike in itself was not very strenuous but it did take us about 2 hours with breaks included. Beautiful views on the way and we just could not get enough of the bamboo forest and banayan tree. There was a heavy downpour on the day we’ve been there and I’m so glad it did not deter our plans to visit this place. Be sure to get enough water, a rain jacket and shoes with a good grip as it tends to get slippery with the mud. After you go all the way to the end, you are rewarded with a breathtaking waterfall.

Unique hike experience while walking through the bamboo forest. They have put metallic structures on ground to make the hike more accessible and comfortable. Must do activity on the island and would recommend to get on trail as early as possible.

Well maintained trail with some fantastic views of falls and the famous (non-native) bamboo forest. Our party got absolutely soaked from several sudden downpours along this trail, and the rocky steps became quite slick. In other words, be prepared for anything. Wear good hiking shoes, and expect to get very wet from any rain.

This is a really beautiful hike up the hillside, through the bamboo. Definitely worth doing, really enjoyed it. The falls at the top are really nice too.Its worth taking your time as there is a lot of bird life if you look out for it.

One of the best hikes of my life! My wife and I loved this adventure! Bring hiking boots, water, bug spray, a snack, and a waterproof pullover. It can get crowded around the popular sites. Be respectful of nature and don't litter. Totally worth the hike. It's about 4 miles there and back. It's a mild to moderate difficulty for most people.

The hike is definitely worth it but it is a hike. I wouldn't say it's hard, just time consuming. You will be in there for at least 2 hours, longer if you take pictures. The bamboo forest is great and calming. Go early before the crowds of people to hear the bamboo smack together in the wind. I would also say put on natural bug spray. The hiking is mostly shaded so no need for a hat or sunglasses. Parking is at the national park.

Very beautiful hike! Several waterfalls with great views, a couple neat footbridges, a very cool bamboo forest that stretched on for quite some distance, and an ending in a basin that gave us very open views of several impressive waterfalls coming off of a very high cliff. A pretty easy hike — the trail was never steep even though there was about 900ft of elevation gain in approximately 2 miles. It was still wet and muddy in sections, and there is water that runs across the trail in several spots, so you may get wet, and should definitely watch your step — it’s slick!Don’t miss this!IMPORTANT NOTE: As of January 1, the road west of here was closed due to a washout on the road, so if you’re trying to make your way back west, you will need to go back through Hana and take the route on the northern side of the island.

2-3 hr trail from the visitor center. About 800 ft elevation gain. Path is well marked and there’s even a boardwalk for a good portion of it. The bamboo forest is very unique to walk through. Overall a great hike! But bring plenty of water or maybe even a snack as it does take quite a bit of time.
