Enjoyed a fantastic ukulele lesson with Kurt. Had my family and I playing in a half an hour! The store is beautiful too, great for purchasing a handcrafted ukulele or just browsing. Everyone we encountered were kind, knowledgeable and unhurried. A fun & authentic experience that we would do again.

Our first night in Kauai my husband and I took an ukulele lesson here. It was so much fun! The staff there is friendly and enthusiastic. It's a really fun way to spend part of an evening.

The staff here were kind and helpful. However, their policies discourage me from ever buying from them in the future. I bought a bikini from them two days ago, wore it once and it broke. I went to the store in hopes of exchanging it for one that wasn’t faulty and they told me there was nothing they could do. The manager told me that she has had bikinis from the store break after a day on multiple occasions herself. 100% would not buy from here again, the prices are not worth the quality.

My husband and I signed up for the beginners group ukulele lesson at Hanalei Strings with Kirk. It was absolutely a fun and memorable experience for us! I ended up buying a ukulele after the lesson to help support the local business. Kirk and his wife and staff are knowledgeable and have such kind souls. It was a pleasure to be their customers. We also bumped into them after our lesson at a nearby restaurant and had a fun conversation with Kirk (he came over to say hello to us!). Try their lessons if you have the chance - if it's not to learn the ukulele (which is quite fun and addictive), you'll end up having a nice time just meeting Kirk and his team and experience a true friendly, Kauai experience!

The positive reviews about this unique shop and the group ukulele lessons are spot on. It's not everyday you walk into a combination music store and yarn shop! My wife and I were wandering through Hanalei and stopped in to look around Hanalei Strings, located in the Ching Young Shopping Center, and saw they offered a beginner group lesson, and we signed up. It was a complete blast! Store-owner Kirk Smart gave the lesson, and while obviously a talented musician, he could have another career as a stand-up comedian! He's a very funny guy. So, as others have pointed out, if you're in the Hanalei area, make sure you take in a ukulele lesson at Hanalei Strings-and who knew you could pay $2500 for a ukulele! BUT, even better than the ukulele lesson is the live music that is performed by local musicians at Hanalei Strings on occasion. We were lucky enough to see Shane Kamakaokalani "Maka” Herrod and his family perform one evening at Hanalei Strings. It was like having a family get-together in one's living room-incredible and highly enjoyable. So, check the schedule at the store or on the Hanalei Strings website and if there is live music happening when you are in the area, make sure you take it in.

We came across this cute shop walking around in Hanalei. My daughter (9 years old) got really excited and wanted to learn. They had a great beginner ukulele and the sales lady was very kind in showing my daughter how to hold the ukulele and get started. My daughter kept strumming the ukulele throughout the trip and we hope she has found a new hobby.

This was a great evening filled with laughter & welcoming atmosphere. My daughter & I had so much fun learning to play the Ukulele. Kirk is a fantastic teacher. I highly recommend booking this event early in your travels, specially if you have a larger group as space is limited. We booked a bit later and there was only 2 spots remaining - sadly 3 people in our party couldn't attend. If you book directly at the store (Hanalei Strings), you can save an additional $5 per person.

Of course, you expect ukuleles and lessons, and the store offers that... and much more! Vintage vinyls, hand-dyed yarn, glass guitar picks, Indian saris recycled into wraps and throws, and a very cool atmosphere... stop by and relax for a while!

We found this ukelele lesson on “Air BNB experiences†and thought it'd be something less typical to do. As hurricane Lane threatened us almost our entire trip, we welcomed an indoor activity. Our initial class was cancelled due extreme weather but Eli, son of the owner, helped me, my husband, and our friend fulfill our wish of taking a lesson by doing a private lesson with us! I was never opposed to the activity but wasn't initially my top choice of activities- I was SO wrong! We had such a fun time learning, laughing, even playing a little tune! If in Hanalei, I'd HIGHLY recommend taking a class there!
