“This was a great experience. Couldn’t be more convenient to Volcanoes National Park. We had the Pele and Lava rooms, and felt like staying in a treehouse. Wonderful, fresh banana bread at breakfast, and the staff went above and beyond to help us.”

“The location simply cannot be beat for exploring the national park! Unfortunately, like so many things owned and managed by the DoD it has been severely neglected and is in need of maintenance, restoration and updates.
We stayed in cabin 8 and one of the bedrooms had such bad mold we could not sleep in it (used the couch). All but one washer was out of service in The laundry room and most of the buildings were in need of repair. Some of the cabins and chapel have been so badly neglected the roofs are collapsing. It appears that nothing has been updated since the 90s.
That aside, the staff were friendly and helpful. There were decent food options. And the hiking trails literally start right in front of the camp.”
