You guys spend all month hyping up and advertising for the Halloween event... I walked in during prime time around 6:30/7pm during the peak of the event. Lines were incredibly long. Self check and express lanes were shut down. So many people wanted to buy just a snack or a couple of small things, but instead we were all greeted with 2 lines open backed up to the end of the aisels by the Meat Dpt. Does management not think here or care or what? Are you hurting for money that bad you can't have 1 express lane open? This is the stuff thats gonna kill this small local business. You can remodel the store all you want, but good luck remodeling the managers brains.Think smarter KTA not Harder... I have faith in you KTA, but when lines are constantly backed up here I will proudly take my sweet Ohana to Target where they don't screw around with precious time. Wake up and catch up KTA, stop living in the past. It's 2024 and its time to make some major changes before your shut down. The next generation ain't gonna care about bagging there 15 produce items with 4 bags like the majority of the shoppers here, it's absolute torture standing behind these people in KTA (50%) of shoppers are over age of 55 easilt.... Most people want to get in and get out... Please make some changes....

More expensive than the Sack n' Save right down the parking lot, but it's got a lot more options and specialty items.

They are definitely in the market for a whole new building and/or a total remodel. Their traffic and content deserve it.

Oct 17,2024 Cashier 1 after 8am
went to KTA Puainako to do some groceries after I drop off my nephew at School.
Spent $300+ but Cashier and helper right away they discriminate me. I handed my eco bags to the lady and stair on me like she was going to eat me alive and didn’t say a word. What a nasty customer service.
As soon as I was paying cash they tried to be nice to me but looking down on the floor
They couldn’t look at me in my eyes.
Treat people with respect specially when they are kind to you.

KTA is a go-to for all the local favorites! They have the best poke, freshest poi, lots of local produce & amazing bakery items! The only downside to it is the layout of the store & the very skinny aisles. This is such a popular local store that it's almost nostalgic but could use a better system for shopping. I would only go in the early mornings or later evenings. Forget trying to go during the day, especially lunchtime. Many of our kupuna shop here, so please have patience while moving through the skinny aisles.
3 stars for all the amazing local fresh items but minus 2 stars for the layout & hard to maneuver in store.

My favorite thing about KTA is their bakery. I think they have some of the best baked goods in Hilo and it's the only place in town I'll by doughnuts

If I could I will give-(minus)5 to this store. … cleanliness just terrible, if you go to restrooms- there always pool of urine on the floor.. and employees with customers carry this filth all over the store, no wander that everything stinks. Quality of food is out of hell. I’m happy not to leave a single penny to this ignorants. Dah..

Well-stocked with an amazing variety of local favorites and grocery staples, friendly helpful staff and top tier bakery section...KTA Puainako has always been my families go-to store bakery for birthdays or just sweet treats to bring home. Happy to say since moving back to the Big Island I now carry that tradition. Must trys: KTA chantilly cake (second only to standard bakery), date nut bars which are def underrated or the scrumptious macadamia nut danish! For a quick and affordable grab n go lunch you could also opt for their prepared poke bowls or fresh bentos. Mahalo KTA Puainako :)

We like KTA for their unique Asian foods and snacks, their pastries, and fresh local fruits and vegetables. Their seasoned meats are also really good. Their prices on most items however are usually higher than other supermarket in town. Because of that we go elsewhere to do regular shopping.

Japanese supermarket. Everyday items are cheap. Hawaiian specialties are also sold at low prices, making them great as souvenirs.

Seafood we bought here is so fresh and tasty, the poke for scallops, mussels, hokkigai and pipikaula is delicious. We also like boiled peanuts, edamame and fried rice.

Always a must stop when I visit home. Love their mountain apple branded products and their mochi by Aunty Gladys Harada. Love their selection of everything!
