Meh...Hilo location is iffy. As an elite member I've been promised a receipt (that I never got), been given lower quality cars, noted the attendants don't like to be bothered @ lunch time.

We rented a car from National (via Priceline) for 2 weeks during our vacation to the Big Island. The pick up near baggage claim was super convenient and easy. It's about a 5 minute ride to the car rental station. There was a small line but it moved slowly because some foreigners did not have the correct paperwork and did not understand English well, but that was not the fault of National. When it was my turn, check in was easy. We got the type of car that I wanted. The car was clean and in good shape, and off we went. Turning in the car at the end of our trip was easy too. Overall, no complaints. I would rent from National again.

I just was told that my car rental with national in Hilo Hawaii is not available. I reserved this car months ago. They did not warn me. I happened to call about adding my wife as a second driver and they happened to notice that I don't have a car.I called to get this fixed and they can not connect me to the Hilo office directly. This is a terrible company.

Super friendly and helpful staff -- I needed to replace my car when its battery died twice in one week, and they handled the switch efficiently and without question. Can definitely recommend!

Been trying to call Hilo location (808)935-0891. Rings about 50 times, no one pickd up. Call ends so I call back 5 TIMES with the same results. I must have heard their phone ring 200+ times. I don't want to talk to their customer service people from the mainland.

There is nothing more frustrating than trying to call regarding any issue related to picking up the car. The national phone line people don't know the answer. They refer you to another 800 number and to a local number 808.. Neither answers. Planes during covid timing come in after hours. So, the question is .. what do you do in this event ....? My flight comes in at 9:45 and they close at 9;30. Pretty bad business practice!!!1

The company I work for uses National Rental Car exclusively as our rental car vendor of choice, and no matter which neighbor island I go to for work, rest-a-sure I will get top notch service, a clean & pretty new vehicle to drive. On my recent car rental experience in Hilo, I must tell you it was a very pleasant experience. One thing nice about going to a small town like Hilo is that you don't have to deal with jumping on a bus, or trolley, to get to the car rental station, as the rental car booth is located just across the street from the Hilo International Airport. After landing in Hilo & going through the Covid-19 security check line, I was released to go pick up my gear from the baggage claim area. After picking up my gear, it was just a short - hop, skip, & jump away to the National Rental Car booth. Upon walking up to the National Rental Car booth, I was greeted right away, flashed my Hawaii Driver's License so the clerk could verify who I was, she gave me my keys to a brand new Nissan Maxima, and off I went to get along with my work day.........easy peasy! The returning process was just as easy, I refilled the gas tank at a local gas station near the airport entrance, then drove back to the parking lot where I picked up my rental vehicle. There are several parking spaces that were marked off for "vehicle returns". I pulled into the parking stall, a girl walks up to me to recheck the fuel level on my rental, then she promptly gives me the receipt bill. Just like that, I was done, and all I did was walk across the street to the Hawaiian Airlines Gate to check in my gear to fly home. What a pleasant trip to Hilo, and National Rental Car was a big part of my smooth, uneventful trip. Big MAHALO to National Rental Car!

As an emerald club member, I was personally told (many times) via AMEX and via customer service that we could go to the emerald aisle and choose any vehicle that we wanted. That was the whole point of my we chose to go with National Car Rental. However, when we arrived we didn’t get to choose our own vehicle nor did we get an upgrade. If only we had known this we would have booked a different vehicle to avoid the inconvenience or choose a different company that would allow us to do an upgrade. We were disappointed as a first time rental customer for National Car Rental.

The check in and return procedure went very smoothly. The staff at the Hilo, Hawaii Airport location was friendly and I had a great experience.

Ellie at the counter in Hilo was great! we accidentally left some reading glasses in the glove box and she tracked down the next rental group and after they returned the car, she found our glasses and gave us a call! Thanks Ellie!

The rental experience was very poor at the HNL airport and car was not that great. Even after requesting for another vehicle no options were provided unless I pay more.

I would give 5 stars as my experience on my car pickup at the start was great, my experience on my drop off was less than stellar. The guy behind the desk was anything but nice and the female a manager I assumed, was also having a bad day. As if asking for a paper receipt was a bit too much to ask for in Kona.

My car was clean, ready, and full of fuel when I arrived. I was in and out in no time for pick-up and my return was every bit as smooth. It was exactly what you want when you are visiting The Big Island. Mahalo!
