My daughter is OBSESSED with gift shops such as this one. She was asking me for nesting dolls for such a long time and we were finally able to find some. This shop was the only place that had them. I bought a super cute butterfly costume here. And plan on dressing up my daughter as a chinese doll next Halloween. They have really cool stuff. I found a wind up carosel. Super cute! Next i'll be looking for anything fantasy. Anything fairytail. And i'll be on the look out for a ferris wheel next hopfullly one day i'll be able to find the cuckoo clock i've been wanting. I'm grateful for shops like this. I take my daughter for her rewards for good behavior. She loves looking around. Its her favorite place to go. My daughter loves dolls and toys that are not thebig box store kind. She loves anything that is tiny. Old fashioned type dolls that leave room for her imagination. Trinkets and nostalgic gifts are the best.

My husband and I buy from their store frequently and always have a nice experience. A middle aged couple runs the shop, usually the wife at the register and the husband watches customers and tries to tell you your Chinese Zodiac sign. We are happy to buy from their store because they don't seem to get many customers. We went in to buy gifts for my younger cousins, and noticed they were selling small clay insects with metal legs. We noticed that out of all the insects, the ants were the most realistic. There were 3 ants, two of them were in perfect condition, the third ant was terribly crushed and had broken legs. My husband picked up the two perfect ants and we walked to the register. The man(owner) was standing in front of the counter, waiting on us, and when I walked up to him, I gently placed the two ants into his outstretched hand. I thought he was going to walk around to the register to check us out, but instead he walked to the back of the store (I initially thought he was checking the price of the bugs) and he told us to check out the displays in the front of the store. My husband went to look at the displays but I stayed by the register, waiting to pay. When the man finally came over to the register to check us out, my husband was still over at the display. The man placed the ants very close to the register and seemed to be keeping them away from my view. When he lifted his hand to start the check out on the register, I realized why he was trying to hide the ants from my view: when he walked to the back of the store, he switched one of our perfect ants for the smashed, broken ant, and was trying to wrap them up and sell them to me without us noticing. I saw my husband walking towards me, and I reached towards the register, grabbing the smashed ant. With the man watching, I quickly turned to my husband and handed it to him, "This isn't the one you wanted, is it?" My husband quickly realized what the man had done, and said very loudly, "No. It's not." My husband went to the back of the store, put the broken ant back, and picked up the perfect ant, which the man had placed back on the shelf. As we finished paying, the man did not say anything to us and would not look at us in our eyes, but kept looking down at the register. I hope he feels ashamed of himself. We visit their store often, and I always thought they seemed like very nice people. I was very taken by surprise and disappointed by the sneaky behavior. Especially since the bugs were only $1.50, why would he feel the need to try and sneakily switch out the nice ant with the smashed one? There is no excuse, his behavior was unkind and we will never return to the store because of it. If I could give them zero stars, I would.

A wonderful store packed with interesting finds. The store workers were very friendly, and everywhere I turned there were so many treasures. One of my favorite stores in Hilo.

So glad we found him since he moved from the big mall. They have fabulous inventory with many hand made art objects along with regular souvenir items. On our quest for bonsai stands (dai), we purchased @ 10 winners and at a good discount. Very pleased with our experience. Easy parking in downtown Hilo. Helpful staff.

There have been negative reviews from the local people and I finally experienced one myself . The owner gets a zero for customer service. Quality of some products are very poor and can fall apart the same day you purchase. Don't expect him to replace it or give you a refund. The receipt states exchange within 10 days but the owner won t exchange because he says there is no warranty. Expect and be prepared to be verbally insulted as he speaks to you condescendingly.
