I stumbled on Hulu Daddy during a search to replace my go-to coffee grower (Langenstein Farms - now out of business) that I have been ordering Kona coffee from since the 1998. The reviews were so stellar for Hulu Daddy I thought I had finally found my new go-to. I ordered Hula Daddy Kahiko - 8 oz / Dark Roast / Whole Bean and I shocked that it seemed no better than the Kona I could get at my local Krogers. Neither my daughter or I was very impressed. I tried different grinds but I never got a very good flavor from the coffee. I thought maybe I had just received a subpar roasting so I tried another highly reviewed Hulu Daddy coffee (Hula Daddy Kahiko - 8 oz / Dark Roast / Whole Bean) and it is even worse. Heavy grind, light grind, more coffee in the brewer, pour-over, nothing made this coffee palatable let alone "one of the best coffees I've ever had" that everyone else is posting about. Very disappointed - especially considering that a 1/2 lb. is as expensive as the Kona coffee that is my interim go-to (Kona Earth). Are the reviews for Hulu Daddy ever real?

This is a review of Hula Daddy’s Laura’s Reserve SL34 and their poor customer service. While the confirmed order shows their Bourbon Pointu beans that I ordered and their website showed it as available, in fact there were no Pointu beans available. After a number of communications about my order being late - they usually ship FedEx 3-day - I finally find out 9 days later - after I’d run out of all my good coffee - that they weren’t able to harvest any Pointu beans recently. I had to settle for a replacement, Laura’s Reserve SL 34. For the 2nd time in a row I received no shipping notice or tracking number. You might think it didn’t matter with the Pointu beans since they were never shipped, but I’d already complained to them about this issue before I was told there were no Pointu beans. So it should have been foremost in their minds that I wanted that info and also that it’s normal courteous procedure to inform your customers with shipping info, including tracking number. In fact their own software tells them to include tracking info, highlighted in blue. This appears on their order confirmation form.
When the SL34 didn’t arrive 3 days after I agreed to the substitution and I had received no shipping info, I assumed there was yet another delay with my order. Having completely run out of coffee I went to a local market and bought about $10 worth of 3 different kinds of loose coffee beans to see if I could find something decent to tide me over. When I got home I found that FedEx had delivered the SL34 coffee. Since loose beans are not returnable, thanks to the lack of any shipping notifications from Hula Daddy, I had just wasted $10. I didn’t like Laura’s Reserve SL34 as much as Pointu Laurina, which I love and would give 5 stars. On customer service alone I give Hula Daddy 2 stars.

We booked a tour while we were visiting Kona for our friend’s bachelorette trip. Turns out they had just received a big order and everyone was very busy at the farm. The tour we got wasn’t very informative, they failed to mention anything in the coffee making process after harvesting the cherries and went straight to roasting. The tour felt rushed and we couldn’t really appreciate the tasting step; our guide couldn’t answer many of our questions about basic things.
It was overall ok but certainly didn’t feel worth 35$.

Hula Daddy Coffee was fantastic! Karen, the owner, was wonderful to meet and she gave us such a great tour. The coffee process is fascinating and the science behind it intriguing. Laura, the head roaster, is brilliant and an absolute artist at what she does. Lynn was engaging and was able to help us select the best roasts for our taste. Overall a wonderful gem of a place!!

BEST COFFEE PLANTATION TOUR. Karen was very informative, personable and shared her passion of all that it has taken to get her from farmer to top producer! It was nice to be greeted with coffee samples, to be helped in selecting roasts to be taken home.... and shipped which came quickly! Karen also makes the gift bags some items come in and have Hawaiian print fabrics.... which I also appreciate the hand sewn aspect and her personal touch. Her roaster and cupping staff were also excellent, and explained that process well, taking time to answer all questions and chat with us. If you want the best... Hula Daddy is the place to go.

Hula daddy Coffee has the worst customer service ever. Our coffee was damaged during shipping and FEDEX required a simple waiver form , Karen would not fill the form out and FEDEX denied our claim. They may have ok coffee but they have zero customer service.Go to Greenwell or any other Kona coffee producer , same quality less expensive. Do not shop here. good luck yours truly DETROIT

Not based on the coffee but on the rude welcoming. I still spent $175 on coffee as I stopped at many of the plantations and wanted a variety to send home. The woman was very rude and unfriendly…asking a simple question of “did I get the best coffee you offer” apparently set her off. I was responded with “help me out, what do you like? I don’t know you or what kind of coffee you want”Seriously lady, get a life. I told her they were gifts and she then said she couldn’t tell me what other people like…guess she hadn’t had her cup of coffee yet. Greg I think his name was who checked me out with my purchases was very friendly though…but man that lady was extremely rude for no reason.

We visited the Hula Daddy farm in 2015. We fell in love with a number of coffees and have ordered nearly every year. One bonus: each month an informative and insightful email comes from Hula Daddy. The author talks about the goings-on at the farm and the coffee industry in-general. I always make a point to keep up with Hula Daddy. This year's (2023-24) Kona Sweet is AMAZING!!!

Took the coffee tour with family. Seeing Karen and Laura was great and everyone learned more about our favorite drink. A great time and Greg was a thoughtful person brewing coffee to match our tastes.

This is one of the more over priced coffee farms on the island. You can drive a few miles in either direction and go to another coffee farm, that actually makes coffee for the guest and have more affordable coffee. They will give you a speel that its expensive because it's hand picked. I found many of the farms have hand picked coffee beans and there coffee isn't as pricey. Nice couple though.

Very nice experience. So thoughtful of the girl there to offer our toddler a toy from the tree. She hadn't learned yet that her favorite stuffed animal had been lost at a previous hotel and so her new ninja turtle came at a great time. She loves it and says Leonardo protects her while she sleeps. Thanks!
