I bought my new Downing Hawaii 9' noserider (about $200) in 1980 from George Downing...I was the King of Diamond Head surf forthe next 5 years...I loved that board.I got married in 1990 & left Oahu in 1994 for Edmonds, Washington. That board became yard art until this weekend when I used it as a GARAGE SALE sign.Today a surf fan asked me to sell it... so I did for $50.I had a great 44 years with my Downing Hawaii board.

Aloha water people, I have been finding my perfect water equipment here for 30 years. As I love all ways to have fun in and on the ocean finding the right boards, clothing, ect is really important to have fun and be safe. Downing family rocks!!! It is a far reaching family....

The last family owned HAWAIIAN surf shop in town... Support HAWAII and buy HAWAIIAN!!! George Downing and his entire family are one of the last connections to Duke Kahanamoku and the history of Surfing in Hawai'i. Go see Keone at their shop, buy clothes and ocean gear for yourself and your family there and/or order a custom-made surfboards from them and spend $ there instead of shopping for deals online and/or buying mass produced boards from ASIA!!! If you live in Kaimuki, Palolo, Manoa, Waikiki and Moili'ili, its is YOUR responsibility to support the HAWAIIANS in your community! ALOHA!

Great shop and amazing boards! What's up with the homeless camp connected to their shop though? It smells like urine from 50 yards away. If you are going to their shop, I would avoid approaching from the side towards Kapahulu and come down Waialae from Kahala side. Lots of unsavory people hanging out. Maybe a dozen or so camping there now with a full on campsite set up. Really strange!

They're so friendly, helpful, and service-oriented. They even pick up the phone and sound HAPPY to hear from you! So rare to find nowadays. Best thing is that they know their surf stuff and they are local family-owned. Shop local!! Support small business owners! They are not just cogs in a wheel. Don't shop on Amazon when there's places like this for all your surf needs. The store has have everything you need and more.

I stopped in the shop while waiting for my car to get fixed down the block. Talked with Keone... Great person... Honest... Not a salesman like you will get at some warehouse type places.. A pro surfer/shaper who will talk story and wants you to have the right board. Also.. saw him out at Castles on the big day two weeks ago. Killed it. Next board I get will be from him.

Really fantastic surfboards made by hand by the owner right in the back of the shop. It’s a brother sister team, shop was founded by their father. They’ll give you great guidance on the right board for you even if that means steering you to buy at another shop. In addition to boards, they also have just about everything you need surfing wise. Great establishment would highly recommend

Excellent service from the oldest Surf Shop in Hawaii. I bought two boards here. Purchased a new leash and it is excellent.

I was interested in purchasing a surfboard and I waited patiently for 25 minutes. Then a couple walks in and instead of helping me the couple gets help on boards. As I wait there I still get no help at all? I guess they don't need the business?! I'll go elsewhere where someone will actually help me with a board instead of being ignored!?

Excellent customer service! I called looking for an Odysea board and they had a shipment coming in. The store promptly called me when it arrived and reserved it for me. They even delivered it to my apartment. Top notch and super friendly service with great mana! Thank you!

I used to live up on Dole St and I'd hang around this place occasionally when I was like 12 or 13ish. I just turned 50.

I love Downing Hawaii! Reminds me of good old fashioned Hawaii surf store back in the day! Good customer service, good vibe, good selection on everything surf related.

Great quality of products and great customers service. You breath Aloha and the "Surf with Aloha" culture as soon as you enter to the store. Keone who owns the shop is always available to share great stories. Highly recommended
