I went to the Hawaii Kai branch yesterday, as I do a couple times a year, to redeem some coins using the Coinstar machine that I've been using for the past 10 years. I was surprised when I went up to the teller to be assessed a 5% service fee of $40 on my $800 redemption.When I asked about my options on getting my money back and spoke to the branch manager I was flatly told that it was a new policy and that I should have read the agreement on the Coinstar machine as they are a contracted service and she could do nothing about it. I asked why there wasn't any signage as this new policy has only been implemented in October of this year. The branch manager replied it was against the Coinstar contract. I felt like I was being duped into paying $40 to retrieve my own money.A simple sign saying to read the agreement more carefully on the Coinstar machine somewhere else in the branch would have alerted me to this change. But this business as usual attitude frustrated me. I found myself getting upset with the staff even though they've treated me courteously and professionally for years. I feel like this negative interaction at the credit union could've been avoided with better publicity. A note in the newsletter which I glance over when I get my statement or something on the website alerting the public to the change would suffice. I worked for the State, my brother works for the State and my mom is a retired public school teacher. The only reason why we were able to live in Hawaii on a State employee's salary was because we have extra income from a rental with a coin laundry. We are not big business abusing the system.I would appreciate someone getting back to me on this matter and if possible giving me a refund for my $40.30. I have been a loyal HSFCU customer for over 20 years and this situation is the first negative experience I have had at the credit union. I hope our credit union does not become like the commercial banks charging fees and making a profit instead of helping its members out.

The customer service has become poorer. I've been a member of the bank for several years. But, unfortunately, the customer service has become so disruptive, difficult, and rude that I am canceling. I encourage others to find other banks who actually possess Aloha.

When one of my friends was buying his first place, I asked him who he was using for his loan officer because my husband and I were looking into buying a place of our own. He referred us to Cynthia at the Hawaii Kai Hawaii State FCU. From the beginning we loved her. She's so warm and welcoming. She was so patient with all our questions and made the entire loan process when purchasing our home as easy as possible. She truly cares about her clients and helping them as much as possible. We would recommend her to any of our family and friends looking to purchase a home in a heartbeat.

I don't know what more I can say about the Hawaii Kai branch. I am overwhelmed by their service. Everytime I walk through the door their smiles are the first to greet me. I hate when I walk into a place for the first time and even though they're people look right at me they don't greet me. I'm sure you know the feeling. It's just kind of awkward. I've had a recent bad experience at another branch but this was the one that turned it around for me. Thank you Hawaii Kai! Keep on keeping on!

This review is for Andre & Todd - Thank you so much for your awesome service and help! I am so happy to now be a member of HSFCU. After searching for a new bank and looking at loan options, I felt very comfortable with this bank and the service I received. They were both very knowledgeable, answered all of my questions, helped me open up new accounts and a new loan, and I left feeling awesome. So grateful I found this bank.
