Called to try to make an appointment and was hung up on after asking 2 questions. I was hoping her phone just got cut off and she would call me back, but nope.

Great customer service and price on surf boards. I bought a 7ft. Longboard that cuts through waves like butter. Happy customer

Great store but requires an appointment so the hours are not real. Middle of the day and the store is closed, the folks require a call ahead

I've bought a couple longboards from Koa. The proprietress has always taken the time to help me choose the right boards for my needs, and home break. Although their board inventory is limited, the shop is absolutely packed with accessories and apparel. And they provide longer-term board rentals, convenient for visiting friends.

Terrible experience. Drove specifically to this store hoping to find either a new board or some parts for a board for my son. Let me set this up: their door was WIDE OPEN; their website mentioned NOTHING ABOUT APPOINTMENTS; there was NOT A SINGLE OBVIOUS SIGN on their door about appointments; there was not A SINGLE CUSTOMER IN THE STORE; and yet, the gentleman at the desk looked right at me, and without a greeting or an ounce of friendliness, immediately barked, "Do you have an appointment?" After I apologized for not knowing about the policy, the gentleman's colleague curtly directed me to find their phone number OUTSIDE. Really?! Need I say more? Go elsewhere. Luckily, I walked right down the street to Quality Surfboards Hawaii and found the friendliest, most helpful team. You don't have to tolerate rude, snobbish, you're-not-good-enough--to-shop-here service - even in Waikiki. Either the management sanctions this attitude or the staff now has a policy that gives them permission to treat customers with zero respect; either way, this business is a total joke. Avoid at all costs.

Firstly dear reader, please don't waste your time visiting this shop. Go to Moku or Inter Island Surf Shop instead.Listen to this, YOU NEED AN APPOINTMENT to visit, yeah really! An appointment to visit a shop and only one customer at a time!!If you're unfortunate enough to enter you're treated extremely rudely as if THEY are doing YOU a favor spending your money there! What a joke.KBS, I was ready to drop hundreds of dollars on gear for my family but you lost it all with the attitude of your staff and also lost my goodwill and trust. Congratulations ??You know, you guys have really lost the plot since COVID. The rest of the world is moving on as you lose your local credibility with every review.I hope you read these comments and address the massive issues affecting your business and reputation.

We've been going to Koa for more than five years and we love their board selection, that it's a ma and pa place, and that they will help and accommodate you in every way. Koa has really struggled since Covid, so their system is currently by appointment only which makes it easy and specialized. You can also select a board on their Instagram page and they have plenty available. You can also easily switch boards and store your board there, which is great for dawn patrol or sunset sessions. The most important part of this review is to give Koa some love and aloha because they deserve it and deserve your support.

Maki was great to communicate with a great selection of surfboards and gear. Pricing was reasonable, located close to the beach.

Was going to be in Waikiki for a week and needed a longboard to rent. Did a quick yelp search and came across Koa Board Sports. Called and left a VM and got a call back. Was told "don't worry, we will have plenty of boards when you get here" When I arrived, there were "plenty of boards to pick from" They allow you to switch boards daily for a small fee. I ended up switching twice before I found one that clicked with me. They even have board storage for you to keep you boards rather than take it back to your hotel. Simple, easy and affordable. Definitely coming back next time.

Even 1 star is too much. This shop was so nice years ago and we used to rent boards with them. This time the lady put a sticker on the door that we can only visit the shop "on appointment" and left the phone number. We called and told her that we are urgently searching for a surf board fin as mine broke. She said nobody is there now only in 4 hours, they are not around. 5 minutes later the lady came out the door right next door as she had an apointment, she even lied to me! We asked if we can come in as well and she said "no" and closed the door in front of our nose! Never something like this happened to us before, this is so unfriendly and cheeky. No "aloha-spirit" at all. So there must have been a change of owners as it was a lovely shop and board rental before. Will never ever come back and do recommend everyone to rent with "moku", this shop is just a few meters from that one and has very friendly and helpful staff.

TL:DR - Super rude lady answered the phone, tried to schedule a time to come in and she said "I don't know, call me later" then hung up. Koa Board Sports is a surfboard and sea equipment rental business, but you need to call them to make an appointment before you can go in. I called hoping to rent a Donald Takayama, In the Pink surfboard, to see how it handles before committing to buying one. A lady answered the phone and already seemed agitated. I asked her if I could rent the ITP surfboard, but she kept cutting me off. After she finally stopped trying to get me rent other surfboards, I asked when could I come in to pick it up. She seemed confused by this question, so I told her that their website said to call first before coming in. At this point, she cuts me off again and puts me on hold. She comes back and says "I don't know, call me later" then hung up. This whole interaction left a sour taste in my mouth, so I searched around for other surfboard rentals, and Surf Garage also had an ITP for rent, so I went there. I'll probably try calling again in the future, but for now, I'm going to pass.

Always our first stop to rent boards for the trip. Great selection and reasonable prices.

They have a good selection of wetsuits but they are quite rude. They have some old surfboards in the changing room, that, according to them cost $5,000. They complained that we touched them (while looking for hangers that they were asking for). Don't see what's the point of having that supposedly expensive items in a changing room.Anyway, if you need a wetsuit it's the only place around.
